Al Piantadosi, music publisher at 1650 Broad-
way, New York, is elated over the scoop he has
just made in obtaining the publishing rights to
"The Blues Singer," an J R. L. A. sound picture,
starring Mamie Smith. The score of this pro-
duction is rich with song material and includes
such numbers as "The Lure of the South,"
"Wonderful Mammy," "My Sportin' Man," and
"The Show Must Go On." Another singing and
dancing musical picture for which Mr. Pianta-
dosi will publish the score is called "The Talk
of Hollywood," starring Nat Carr. This pro-
duction is to be released shortly by the Excel-
lent Pictures Corp. and will contain the fol-
lowing songs: "Daughter Mine," "Sarah" (a
novelty song), "I'll Get Her From Daddy" and
"When You're in Love."
Mr. Piantadosi's popular catalog is being held
up stronger than ever before with two fast
numbers, called "Hello Sweetie" and "I Never
Guessed." Both songs are in the repertoire of
the leading dance bands and Rudy Vallee, co-
writer of the latter, is lending his prestige to
the song in all its programs. Recently Mr.
Piantadosi picked up a novelty song, entitled
"I've Got the Stock Market Blues," which is
proving popular with many big acts and radio
stars.

Edward B. Marks
Last Summer Mr. Marks spent considerable
time in England and on the continent and, ac-
companied by Mrs. Marks, combined sight-see-
ing with business. This time, however, the
trip is purely of a business character and he
is visiting London, Paris, Berlin and Vienna,
where the Marks firm has important connec-
tions.
Chief among the reasons for Mr. Marks' trip
is the ever-increasing activity of his house in
the foreign music field, necessitating constant
touch with foreign music men. The question
of world rights, brought up by the talking pic-
tures and synchronization, is also an important
one to a firm that has such a large number of
European successes. Several new deals are in
the offing which will add prestige to the con-
cern as a standard music house. Mr. Marks
was armed for his trip with a strong popular
catalog, headed by Ernie Golden's fox-trot,
"The Toymaker's Dream," which has been a
virtual successor to the "Parade of the Wooden
Soldiers" in the Marks catalog.

"Ploddin' Along" Issued
SAM FRANCISCO, CAL., April 13.—A new song of
the South, called "Ploddin' Along," is being in-
troduced by Villa Moret, Inc., local music pub-
lishing firm, as a follow-up to its hit of last
season, "Chloe." The number is by Jo Trent,
Peter De Rose and Willard Robison, writers of
"Muddy Water," of a few seasons ago, and has
an appealing melody, characteristic of the type
of song generally popularized by Villa Moret.
A special dance arrangement of the number by
Frank Skinner has just been issued and is prov-
ing popular with large and small orchestras.
New Carson Robinson Song
A lively comedy number, entitled "Barnacle
Bill, the Sailor," written by Carson Robinson
