Old Songs by Berlin Are

The Irving Berlin Standard Music Corp.,

of Irving Berlin's earlier songs, which had been
A new ballad, entitled "Mistakes," has re-
cently been imported from England by Mills
Music, Inc., New York, and is commencing to
show up in a big way on this side of the water.
This song was written by Edgar Leslie and
Horatio Nichols, writers of "Among My Sou-
venirs," and like that number was originally
published in England by the Lawrence Wright
Music -Co. The number possesses a universal
appeal in its lyrics and the melody is one of
those catchy strains that wins on first hearing.
The latest product from the pens of Dorothy
Fields and Jimmy McHugh, of the firm of Mills
Music, Inc., are "Lookin' for Love" and
"Raisin' the Roof," both of which are featured
in the new Ziegfeld Midnight Frolic. This pair
of writers will be remembered for their best
seller of a few months ago, "1 Can't Give You
Anything But Love, Baby," stamping them as
real hit writers.

Remarkable Activity
Irving Berlin
previously published by Waterson, Berlin &
Snyder, New York. This was in the days be-
fore Mr. Berlin headed his own firm, Irving
Berlin, Inc., New York, as he does to-day.
Such internationally known songs as "Alex-
ander's Rag Time Band," "When I Lost You,"
"When I Leave the World Behind," "Some-
body's Coming to My House," and many other
million-copy hits are included.
A campaign on these numbers is to be started
by the Irving Berlin Standard Music Corp.
shortly and the songs will be published indi-
vidually in regular sheet music form. A com-
plete list of titles will appear in The Review
in a short time.
Display of Berlin Song
INDIANAPOLIS, IND., March 16.—Irving Berlin's
song, "Where Is the Song of Songs for Me?"
theme of the United Artists Picture production,
"Lady of the Pavements," has been showing
considerable activity here on dealers' counters,
due to the local showing of the film at Loew's
Palace Theatre. The music department of the
C. C. Murphy Co. created a special window
display of the song with an attractive placard
containing a photograph of Lupe Velez, star
of the picture, and a title-page of the song.
The balance of the window was filled with sheet
music copies and records of the song.
Joseph P. Whalen, well-known publishers'
representative, has joined the band and orches-
tra division of Broadway Music Corp.
"The Toymaker's Dream," which was issued
a few weeks ago by the Ed. B. Marks Music
Co., New York, gives every indication of being
a real successor to "The Parade of the Wooden
Soldiers" in the firm's catalog. Written by
Ernie Golden, well-known orchestra leader, the
number is being featured many times a week
by this conductor over the Columbia radio
chain and is also on the programs of most of
the big orchestras. The reception given "The
Toymaker's Dream" by music teachers, school
supervisors and better-class musicians in gen-
eral indicates that it is to become, not only a
great popular hit, but a long-lived standard
success as well. It is being issued for quartet,
band, tenor-banjo solo, saxophone, solo and
several other arrangements. The first Victor
record, made by Miss Vaughn de Leath, will
be released this month, as will most of those
recorded by the other talking machine record
companies.
