SUPREME COURT
Decision of Vital Interest
to Manufacturers and Purchasers of
Genuine Mahogany Furniture
AKERS of genuine Mahogany furniture,
radio boxes, talking machines and other
wood products are afforded adequate and ef-
fective protection from the unfair competition
of furniture made from substitute woods but
sold as and for Mahogany or under names of
similar import, by decision of the United
States Supreme Court handed down October
15, 1928.
M
In this decision the United States Supreme
Court denied petition for writ of certiorari in
the so-called "Philippine Mahogany case", thus
leaving undisturbed the order of the Federal
Trade Commission as affirmed by the Circuit
Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, New York.
The order of the Commission which is now
enforcible, restricts the name "Mahogany" or
any name of similar import to lumber or wood
products derived from trees of the Mahogany
or Meliaceae family. The order specifically pro-
hibits the use of the name "Mahogany" or
"Philippine Mahogany" or any name of similar
import as applied to hardwood lumber of the
Philippine Islands or any product made
therefrom.
The buying public demands and appreci-
ates quality products. Genuine Mahogany has
been the supreme cabinet wood for over 200
years. The finest furniture is still made from
genuine Mahogany either alone or inlaid with
other woods for which it forms the perfect
background. Build the reputation of your fur-
niture on the solid foundation of quality. Use
genuine Mahogany.

Opened—Other Trade News
MILWAUKEE, WIS., December 12.—The franchise
for selling the Baldwin in Milwaukee has been
awarded to O'Connor-Lazar, Inc., a recently
formed Wisconsin corporation which has taken
a long lease on quarters at 434-436 Broadway,
in the heart of "Music Row" on Broadway.
The new company is headed by A. B. O'Con-
nor, who was formerly vice-president of the
Music Arts Corporation; and W. T. Lazar, who
has long been identified in the financial field,
is vice-president and treasurer.
Frank J.
Schmitt is secretary of the new concern.
The new location of the company affords
beautiful display rooms with modern furnish-
ings and window drapings maintaining an ex-
cellent background for the musical merchandise.
The Baldwin Piano Co. has operated a direct
factory branch in Milwaukee for years, located
with the William A. Kaun sheet music store at
90 East Wisconsin avenue prior to awarding its
franchise to O'Connor-Lazar. In addition to
the Baldwin piano, the company will handle the
entire
Baldwin-built
line, embracing the
Howard, Ellington, Hamilton and Monarch
pianos with the Welte Mignon reproducing
medium. The company will also handle a com-
plete line of radios embracing the Atwater
Kent, Bosch, Minerva and other lines.
The Lincoln Electric Service Co. has changed
its firm name to the Lincoln Radio Service Co.
The firm is located at 1390 Green Bay avenue.
According to F. R. Plate, manager of the store,
the former name was confusing, the belief being
that it was an electrical equipment house. The
store features the Kolster, Radiola and Freed-
Eisemann.
Vesey Walker, of the Vesey Walker Music
Shoppe, reports that activity since September
has been slow. Buying on musical instruments
was very strong during September, but declined
heavily during October and November, although
December shows a marked increase.
Polk College of Piano
Tuning Plans Winter Course
Next Session to Start on January 8 and Will
Embrace All Phases of Piano Tuning and
Repair Work
LA PORTE, IND., December 10.—The management
of Polk College of Piano Tuning has just com-
pleted plans for the Winter term of January
8 with January 7 as enrollment date.
The tuning and repairing consists of all pri-
vate lessons. This gives the student the un-
divided attention of the instructor, and per-
mits the instructor to advance the student as
rapidly as he can thoroughly cover the work.
To those who are of moderate means this is a
very significant factor in choosing this school.
Instruction in players, reproducers and elec-
trics consists of the actual taking down and
rebuilding and repairing of all the principal
makes of mechanisms. Special attention is
paid to each part and lectures given in regard
to construction and repair of broken and worn
parts.
The special tuition for the Winter courses
includes piano tuning and all phases of repair-
ing, player and electric-player repairing and
rebuilding; and all kinds of action, repairing
and regulating. The average student completes
the work in approximately twelve weeks. If
the student wishes to stay longer, he may do so,
free of charge, and receive the same personal
help as long as he cares to stay and practice.
The Polk College of Piano Tuning has a
large list of graduates in all parts of the
countrv.
