"Flora, I Ador-a-You"
Secured by Witmark
New Number Has Had Big Success Abroad—
Schuster and Tucker Responsible for Ameri-
can Version
American rights to a European dance success
have been secured by M. Witmark & Sons, New
York, who will release the number under the title
of "Flora, I Ador-a-You." The circumstances
surrounding the introduction of the song to the
firm were unusual in that the interest of Isidore
Witmark was aroused by a phonograph record of
the song brought to this country by Dr. Alexander
Merton, a prominent Hungarian publisher. He
invited Mr. Witmark to hear the recordings of
several of his songs, among them an outstanding
number written by the Hungarian composer, Fred
Markush.
The song appealed to Mr. Witmark so strongly
that arrangements were made forthwith for the
American rights. Since then Joe Schuster and
Johnny Tucker, of the Witmark professional
staff, turned out the American version and a
dance arrangement has been made by Joseph
Nussbaum.
'Sidewalks of New York"
Gomes With Convention
Song Closely Linked With Al Smith, Leading
Democratic Candidate, Steadily Growing In
Demand
With the approach of the date of the Demo-
cratic National Convention, calls from the
trade for "Sidewalks of New York" are becom-
ing more frequent, according to Maurice Rich-
mond, president of the Paull-Pioneer Music
Co., New York. He reports that many up-state
bands arid dealers have ordered the new band
arrangements of this number, whose renewed
popularity has been linked with the name of
Al Smith as a presidential candidate. The
Richmond. Music Supply Co., New York, of
which Mr. Richmond is head, is enjoying an
active season, both as distributor for the
Paull-Pioneer Company and in the general
sheet music jobbing field.
SONCS
Miss Dora Alexander, manager of distribu-
tion for the Richmond house, states that the
house is experiencing a large demand for sheet
copies and orchestrations of production num-
bers this year. Piano novelties and waltz
ballads are also showing up big on the books
of the house.

Many Numbers by Composer of "Glow Worm"
In Activity In Catalog of That Firm and
Meeting With Good Demand
The Ed. B. Marks Music Co., New York,
American publishers of the works of the Viennese
composer, Paul Lincke, who wrote "Glow Worm,"
report a renewed activity in his writings with
the recent arrival in this country of "Lincke-
Winke," a new fox-trot arrangement of some of
his best numbers. This is a particularly appropri-
ate radio number and Nat Shilkret, of the Ever-
Ready, Maxwell and Victor hours, has already
listed it as one of his choicest features. Three
new Lincke overtures are also fresh on the
market and "Glow Worm" is continuing as
strong as ever.
A vocal arrangement of the best Lincke waltz,
"Spring, Beautiful Spring," will be released next
season by the Marks house as a follow-up to the
current revival hit, "Down South." Another Lincke
development was the recent German production of
"Gri Gri," a new operetta, which will probably
receive an English production in this country
soon.
