Vega Co. Receives Letters of Commendation
From Such Far-Distant Points as Vienna
and Athens, Greece
BOSTON, MASS., December 27.—Vega and Vega-
phone banjos are not only popular in United
States but in tlic distant hinds as well. Many
made these banjos withstand the weather con-
ditions of London.
From the ancient town of Athens, Greece,
the Vega Co. received word of praise from
D. E. Demetriades, who is a popular concert
banjoist in this historical place. Also from
Gunther Weiss, the famous banjoist of Vienna,
was received many words of praise for the
beautiful tone quality and the durability.
Legion Drum Corps.
Equipped With Duplexes
EASTON, PA., January 3.—The Brown and
Lynch Post American Legion Trumpet and
Bugle Corps, recently purchased new equipment
which included fifty drums and twenty-five
trumpets. The drums are Duplex, made by the
Duplex Mfg. Co., 2815 Henrietta street, St.
Louis, Mo., and the sale was made through the
Pennsylvania Band Instrument Co., local dis-
tributor of the Duplex line. Duplex drums were
selected in competition with a number of other
makes. The Duplex Mfg. Co. was founded in
1883 and is the oldest concern in its line in the
country. The Brown and Lynch Post Corps.
is a very flourishing organization, and four
months after it was formed it was given honor-
able mention among sixty-five corps participat-
ing in the eighth annual National American
Legion Convention parade during the Sesqui-
Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.
Karl Fuchs, head of Bohland & Fuchs, of
Graslitz, Czecho-Slovakia, will arrive in New
York next week to make an extensive visit to
the musical merchandise trade in the United
States. Bohland & Fuchs is one of the largest
manufacturers of band instruments in Europe,
and its American import agent is the William
k. Gratz Import Co., 126 West Thirty-fourth
street. While in New York Mr. Fuchs will
make his headquarters with this company, and
Joseph Mock, secretary of the Gratz Co., is ar-
ranging plans for Mr. Fuchs' visit to other
cities.
Macaulay Joins Hanson
SAN FRANCISCO, December 27.—A. D. Macaulay,
who for six years has been with the retail band
and orchestra instrument department of Sher-
man, Clay & Co. in this city, has resigned to
accept a post on the staff of the H. C. Hanson
Music House. After a short stay at Hanson's
main store it is expected that Mr. Macaulay
will be attached to the Oakland store.
Dan Coakley, drummer with Paul Kelly's
Orchestra, has been placed in charge of the
drum department of the H. C. Hanson Music
Mouse.
