McDowell Festival
to Be Held June 29
Dowell Colony at Peterborough, N. H., founded
for the advancement of American music.
Edward MacDowell composed many of his
greatest works in the famous log cabin in the
New Hampshire woods and it was the dream of
his life to develop it into a practical institution
for providing creative artists of proven talent
the opportunity and environment for producing
their best work.
The last years of Mr. MacDowell's life were
devoted exclusively to the realization of this
dream and since his lamented death Mrs. Mac-
Dowell has converted his dream into tangible
realities.
In this beautiful retreat in the woods of New
Hampshire, the musician, the poet, the artist,
the sculptor may find inspiration and oppor-
tunity for work with others and the cost for
board will be a modest sum.
Mrs. Edgar Stillman Kelley, president of the
National Federation of Music Clubs, states that
the entire country has responded to the Mac-
Dowell Foundation call and delegates from
many states will attend the Festival at WilWow
Grove on June 29.

Samuel Richards Gaines is responsible for the
choral paraphrase setting of Anton Rubinstein's
"Seraphic Song." This is arranged for mixed
voices with contralto solo, with violin obbligato
and accompaniment of piano, harp and organ.
There is a four-part arrangement for women's
voices also, with the same musical accompani-
ment. Organ and harp parts are also available

Frank Crum, the tenor saxophonist, with Cass
Hagan's Hotel Manger Orchestra, has written
a song called "Melancholy Charlie." It is un-
derstood that the Cass Hagan Orchestra will
shortly record this new number for the Co-

several other records for that firm. Mr. Crum
is a radio favorite over Station WOR, Newark.
