The Century Music Publishing Co., which, for
the past fifteen years has advertised its Cen-
tury Edition in maRazines of national circula-
tion, has arranged plans for its 1927 advertising
campaign.
The Century advertising campaign has been
enlarged each year, reaching new millions of
readers, and is supplemented by a series of sales
helps which adds materially to the hook-up
value of this publicity program.
Prior to closing the plans for the 1927 cam-
paign the Federal Advertising Agency, which
handles the Century advertising account, made
a thorough and intensive study of all of the
Century past campaigns. In conjunction with
this probe the agency representatives had many
talks with Century dealers with the result that
they were able to- bring to bear upon the com-
ing season's advertising program many sug-
gestions made by Century merchants.
Details of the magazines to be used, the num-
ber of readers obtained and the territory cov-
ered will shortly be announced.
Among the songs featured by John McCor-
mack in his Victor radio concert program on
New Year's night was a Chappell-Harms, Inc.,
number "The Far-Away Bells." This is a typi-
cal McCormack offering and it is understood
that he plans to program it frequently during
the present season. Doubtless also it will ap-
pear on one of the early lists of Victor releases.
"The Far-Away Bells" has indications of be-
ing one of the most successful numbers ever
issued by the Chappell-Harms organization. The
great interest shown in this offering by concert
artists demonstrates it to be a number of un-
usual caliber.
The "Dorothy Lee Display Contest," arranged
by the Sam Fox Publishing Co. of New York
and Cleveland, ()., has been extended until Feb-
ruary 1. Originally it was scheduled to close on
December 31 but because of the fact that many
music merchants were unable, due to holiday
activities, to take part, the Fox Co. following
many requests decided on the later date of
closure.
The "Dorothy Lee Display Contest" is on
three songs by this successful writer: "In the
Heart of the Hills," "Out of the Dusk to You"
and "One Fleeting Hour." The material for the
displays is furnished gratis by the Fox organiza-
tion and there are no special qualifications. The
judges are three members of the trade'press and
'here are numerous prizes with duplicates in
case of ties, etc. Shortly after the contest closes
decision will promptly be made as to the win-
Germany's Sheet Music
Exports Show Decrease
Germany's exportation of sheet music in the
first nine months of the current year (1926) is
13 per cent, below the corresponding movement
in 1925. The importation is likewise down—by
19 per cent. There was an increase in ex-
ports in 1925 compared with 1924, but this suc-
cess has not been maintained. The largest buy-
ers, this year, have been Holland, Austria,
Switzerland, Czecho-Slovakia, England, the
United States and Belgium.
International Music Show
An International Music Exposition will be
held at Geneva from May 21 to June 6, 1927. It
will consist of two sections, commercial and
historic. International artistic events will be
held during the course of the fair. A very large
cosmopolitan attendance is foreseen. Informa-
tion may be obtained from the Secretary of the
Committee, Rue du Rhone, Geneva, Switzer-
land.
