Troup Bros. Celebrate
Twenty-fifth Anniversary
Harrisburg Music Firm Completes Twenty-fifth
Year of Successful Progress
HARRISHURG, PA., March 19.—The past week
marked the celebration of the twenty-fifth an-
niversary of Troup Bros. Music Store, at 8
North Market Square, Harrisbu r g.
According to L. A. Troup and A. C. Troup,
members of the firm, after having several years
of apprenticeship in one of the largest piano
factories in the country, they opened their first
music store in Chambersburg in 1902, and at
that time was one of the largest music stores
in the Cumberland Valley. This was their
headquarters for over two years, after which
their business grew to such an extent that they
were compelled to obtain larger and more
up-to-date quarters. The main office was then
moved to York, with branch stores in Harris-
burg, Chambersburg, Lewistown, Lancaster and
several other central Pennsylvania towns.
After having their headquarters in York for
fifteen years, the Trustee Building, at 8 North
Market Square, was purchased in April, 1919,
and the main office was moved to this city.
The basement, first and second floors were
remodeled and made into an up-to-date music
store. The remaining third, fourth and fifth
floors were used for offices.
About three years ago, according to Mr.
Troup, the business grew to such an extent that
they were compelled to remodel the upper
three floors and at this time the name of the
building was changed to Troup Brothers Build-
ing. The store now occupies the entire build-
ing of six large floors and they have distribution
of musical merchandise in seven counties.
Moller Buys Stief? Branch
HAUKKSTUWX, Mu., March 21.—Negotiations have
been completed for the purchase of the local
branch of Charles M. StiefY, Inc., by the Moller
Music Co., of this city. The transaction was
precipitated by the necessity of the Stieff store
to move from its present location on account of
alterations being made on the building there.
Tn order to accommodate its increased business,
the Moller company has leased new quarters in
the Updegraff Building, 51 West Washington
street, to which the StiefT stock will be moved
shortly.
