selection of a suitable slogan for general use
in the belief that in variety there will be found
a means for creating and holding wider in-
terest. A particularly effective campaign along
this line has for some time been carried on by
the Martin Bros. Piano Co., Cable dealer in
Springfield, Mo. This concern has 'been using
billboards liberally and putting a different slogan
on each billboard and have tied-up with that out-
door campaign most effectively through the
medium of a series of postcards designed to
represent billboards and carrying the same
slogan.
These mailing cards are sent out at regular
intervals to prospective customers and have
proven sufficiently effective in promoting sales
to warrant the continuance of their use. It is
held that the brevity of the copy gives it its
greatest value, for the phrases are easy to read,
easy to remember, and have a definite "punch."

is using a series of ten slogans, some of which
are reproduced and which might well be studied
by those who will have the task of selecting a
suitable slogan for general use by the industry.

Hudson River Steamer Chartered to Take
Attendants to Indian Point Near Peekskill
Final plans for the annual Summer outing of
the Aeolian Co. Employes' Association, to be
held on Saturday, July 24, were completed early
this week by the Governing Board of the Asso-
ciation, who expressed the opinion that the af-
fair will be the "best ever." The Hudson River
steamer "Chauncey M. Depew" has been en-
gaged for the day and will sail from the docks
at West Forty-second street at 9.30 a. m., stop-
ping again at One Hundred and Twenty-fifth
street at 10 o'clock and at Yonkers at 10.40 to
pick up employes living nearer those points.
The outing this year will be held at Indian
Point, near Peekskill, N. Y., where both the
natural and cultivated facilities will assure a
most enjoyable setting for the picnic. W. H.
Price, chairman, with Walter Eifert and J.
Pearson comprise the committee on arrange-
ments and report that the Aeolian Employes'
Association has reserved the exclusive rights
to the steamer for the entire day. Music and
other entertainment will be featured on the trip
up the river and all kinds of sports and games
are planned after the destination has been
reached. There will be plenty of food to go
around and many surprises in store for those
taking the holiday, according to those who
ought to know. The weather man has thus far
been noncommittal.
Opens New Music Store
GRAVETTE, ARK., July 19.—A. L. Allum has
opened his new music store in the Hayes
Building, handling a full line of pianos, talking
machines and radio. The store was formerly
located in the Gravette Building on Main
street. Mr. Allum has had the quarters at the
new location completely remodeled.
