presentation of the number, and simplified ex-
ploitation to a considerable degree.
One of the outstanding features of the cam-
paign on "A Night of Love" inaugurated by
Chappell-Harms, Inc., is the sponsoring of this
waltz by two of the most prominent orchestra
leaders—music directors who have made a name
with their orchestras both in the record field
and by way of radio. Each of these leaders,
Vincent Lopez and Ben Bernie, has contributed
unsolicited testimonials of the number's popu-
larity. These testimonials were based upon the
number of times "A Night of Love" has been
played by request on the dance floor and on
communications received from radio enthusi-
asts.
Both the Vincent Lopez Orchestra and the
Ben Bernie combination of record and radio
artists have a wide following. Each of these or-
chestra leaders can do much to send a success-
ful number on its way to popularity. Both are
enthusiastic over the prospects of "A Night of
Love," and predict that it will be. one of the
biggest waltz hits of 1926, and from the dealer's

of a catalog that would open up a new era
for such musicians. Obviously they cannot con-
tinually repeat the musical classics; equally ob-
vious is their need of modern music written
by skilled composers which will fit in with mo-
tion picture requirements. Mr. Waterson de-
termined to see if he could not fill this want.
With this object in view he broached the
subject of writing such compositions to Dr.
Hugo Felix, the noted composer, who was at-
tracted to the proposition and who later pre-
sented several works which convinced Mr. Wat-
erson that his idea was not only feasible but
attainable as well.
Harry Sigmund was later selected by Mr.
Waterson to further the interest of. this new
orchestra idea, induce other well-known com-

posers to prepare compositions along the high
standards set and, through his wide acquaint-
ance with orchestra leaders, properly present
the publications to those for whom they were
composed.
Mr. Sigmund has been branch manager of
the First National and other large film manu-
facturers. Later he was associated in an exec-
utive capacity with the Tax Free Music Bu-
reau. These two activities gave him special
qualifications, experience and first-hand knowl-
edge of all the factors involved in the gather-
ing together and presenting, as well as exploit-
ing publications along the standards proposed
by American Composers, Inc.
Dr. Hugo Felix, the composer of many of
the first series, will be remembered for his
musical plays including "Pom Pom," "Lassie,"
"Marjolaine" and "The Sweetheart Shop." Other
