Bacon Banjo Go. Brings
Out New Snare Drum
Instrument Is Manufactured With Resonator, a
New Departure in Drum Construction
GROTON, CONN., January 6.—An announcement
of great interest to the musical merchandise
trade was made to-day by David L. Day, vice-
president and general manager of the Bacon
Banjo Co., Inc., manufacturer of B & D Silver
Bell banjos and musical instruments, who placed
on the market the new B & D Silver Bell
snare drum. Not only is this a new departure
for the Bacon Banjo Co., but the drum itself is
something brand new, for it is made with a
resonator, something entirely new in drums.
The announcement of the new B & D Silver
Bell snare drum comes after many months of
preparation by the acoustic engineers and ex-
perts at the Bacon plant, who are now ready to
offer the finished product to the trade.

"Bacon dealers will now be able to offer their
trade something entirely new," declared Mr.
Day, in making the announcement to a repre-
sentative of The Review. "A drum with a sci-
entifically designed resonator, a device long
popular with banjoists, is something new to
drummers. Professional drummers who have
tried the first ones pronounce them without
doubt the finest drums made.
"The professional drummer will find with this
combination of a well-made snare drum with
the B & D amplifying sound chamber, that he
can produce a much-improved staccato effect
and greater carrying power, both of which are
necessities in the modern dance orchestra. With
this drum, a more uniform roll can be produced
with less effort. We have already placed these
drums with a number of dealers, who report
that they have been received with acclaim by
the professional drummers."
Annual Contest Serves to. Arouse Much Interest
Among Violin Enthusiasts—Mexican Bands
Organized
KANSAS CITY, MO., January 4.—That the band
and orchestra business has been good in this
section for several years is indicated by the
prosperity of Crawford & Rutan, whose forces
have grown from the two partners to fifteen
men, in addition to Manager Green, of Topeka,
Kan., branch, and his helpers. All of the men
in the Kansas City store are practical musi-
cians, and all those who are active in the pro-
fession are members of the local musicians'
association.
Manager Warren, of the retail musical mer-
chandise department of J. W. Jenkins Sons'
Music Co., reports the recent organization of
two Mexican bands in Kansas City, each num-
bering about fifty members. These bands were
assisted in their organization by Mr. Warren,
and they are well equipped with instruments.
There is quite a little interest in the meeting
of the Old Fiddlers' Association, which is hold-
ing its annual contest in this city this year. This
