turing Conn brasses in exceptionally fine window
displays of late. These windows are so brilliant
and attractive that they seldom fail to attract
a good-sized throng of passersby and this is
naturally reflected in the increased sales.

The best banjo made will sound like a pawn-
shop relic unless it is equipped with a good
bridge. A Grover Bridge will improve the
tone of any banjo made—from the cheapest
to the best. The wise dealer puts Grover
Bridges on his banjos and banjo ukes before
he offers them for sale. He knows that "a
banjo is no better than its bridge."

CHICAGO, I I I . , July 25.—The Spanish Strad,
the world-famous Stradivarius violin that has
been in the possession of Lyon & Healy, was
sold last week by that firm to T. C. Peterson,
San Francisco. The instrument was made by
the celebrated luthier of Cremona in 1723 and
acquired its title around 1800 when it was in
the possession of the governor general of Cadiz,
Spain. It is one of the most beautiful Strads
in existence to-day and is in a wonderful state
of preservation.
Lyon & Healy also recently sold the Artot
Strad, 1722, to another Pacific Coast resident
and a J. B. Guadagnini to Sylvain Noack, con-
cert master of the Los Angeles Symphony Or-
chestra, who also purchased one of the Tourte
bows from the Partello collection. Ralph
Granger, San Diego, Cal., the former owner of
the famous Hawley collection of old violins,
bought an Amati, 1684, from Lyon & Healy
during the past month.
Other Lyon & Healy sales include an ex-
tremely beautiful Heronius Amati violin to
