signboard recently erected at the entrance of
the city here. The message reads:
"You are now in Elkhorn. Where Music
Predominates. 2,(XX) Population. 500 Musi-
cians."
The signboard is a handsome piece of work
and in its prominent location on the main high-
way it will be seen by thousands of tourists
traveling through Wisconsin. It is painted in
striking colors and shows a pretty girl playing
a large Holtonphone and the other illustration
is a design of Holton instruments featuring the
slogan: "The achievement of an ideal by a
master builder."
Elkhorn is described as "the Home of
Helton's—America's Greatest Band Instruments,
l.argest manufacturers of strictly high-grade
band instruments." The factory is two blocks
west and two blocks south of the sign and many
motorists turn off to take advantage of the

year for quality musical merchandise that is
nationally advertised, such as we handle. Out-
line of band and orchestra instruments includes
only the makes of manufacturers who are fa-
mous for their high standards of quality, whose
instruments are chosen, used and highly en-
dorsed by professional musicians and amateurs
alike." Mr. Davitt reported that holiday and
post-holiday business were both very brisk, the
medium-priced items leading in sales. "(7" rnel-
ody saxophones, he explained, were an excep-
tion, as these sold best in the higher-priced
field. The terms of sales, he stated, are show-
ing more of a tendency to adhere to the cash
basis. Although the firm is located in a whole-
sale district, almost a square from the city's
leading retail shopping street, it is doing a
flourishing retail business.
In speaking of salemanship, Mr. Davitt said
that every person who enters their door is con-
