Wanted Deagan Instrument
Regardless of Price
SLINGERLAND
Musician Demands Marimbaphone of That Make
Although He Could Have Secured Instrument
From Another Manufacturer for Less
CHICAGO, I I I . , July 14.—Quality won a victory
• over price in an interesting telegraphic sale of
a Deagan marimbaphone consummated recently
by J. C. Deagan, Inc., with a professional musi-
cian. This musician inclosed a check with a
request that the instrument be shipped at once.
The check fell short by $35 of covering the list
price of the marimba so the Deagan officials
immediately wired the musician to that effect.
He sent a telegraphic reply stating that an-
other firm had quoted him the price covered by
his check but he wanted a Deagan and to fill
the order or wire. Deagan's second wire was
as follows:
"We can accept order only on basis outlined
in our telegram. We offer quality that will give
satisfaction year after year. As a professional
you will appreciate that so-called discount is not
nearly as important as your satisfaction. Many
of country's best known xylophonists buy
Deagan instruments even when offered other
makes free."
The musician wired back: "Send instrument
immediately. Would not have other make."
The exchange of telegrams and letter have
been photographed by the Deagan advertising
department for use as advertising material to
show the quality of Deagan merchandise as well
as to render a specific example of the way
Deagan prices arc upheld at all times.
