That Should Be Found in Every Home for
the Training of the Child
Two Volumes of Miniature Classics and a
Group of Russian Piano Pieces Among the
Features of That Company's Latest List
The General Federation of Women's Clubs,
through its national chairman of music, Anne
Shaw Faulkner, has been conducting a cam-
paign "on music that should be found in every
home." The series, which includes lectures and
editorials, is directed at the parents desirous of
giving their children musical training.
One of the things that is pointed out in the
program is a list of songs which, through the
child's education, should be easily recognized
and appreciated and should form a part of the
musical training. The list is of well-known
selections which, becoming familiar to the child
mind in the early part of the musical training,
should later be either sung or played as the
child advances. They follow:
The latest trade notice of the Oliver Ditson
Co. carries its December novelties. Of par-
ticular importance are a series of three volumes
containing works of the highest class which
can be retailed at a most popular price. They
include Miniature Classics (Bach and Handel)
and Miniature Classics, Volume 2 (Haydn and
Mozart), and Ten Russian Piano Pieces which
contain all of the favorite Russian compositions,
such as "Song of India'' and "Volga Boatman's
Song." These are publications that should add
to retail sales. They arc books that should have
an appeal to both teacher and student.
There are several new teaching pieces by Bert
R. Anthony and some recent additions to the
sacred songs. There follow some new issues
in octavo, some new school music and repre-
sentative list of songs. A page is given over
to a short review of the first and second year-
books of "A Course of Study in Music Under-
standing," issued under the encouragement of
the National Federation of Music Clubs. They
are entitled "The Fundamentals of Music" and
"From Song to Symphony."

Excellent New Numbers
Offer Interesting Selections of the Ballad Type

in the Catalog
Enoch & Sons, the well-known ballad pub-
lishing house, is featuring two new numbers by
May H. Brahe, "Shy Mignonette" and "To a
Miniature," also a new song by Easthope Mar-
tin called "When You Come to Me." Among
the other newer songs that are being heard fre-
quently from the same catalog are "Journey's
End," by Sydney King Russell, and "Can't
Remember," by Alma Goatley.
Another feature of the Enoch catalog is Ber-
nard Hamblen's "A Withered Rose." From
present indications this song should reach wide
popularity.
Lerf Pouishnoff has arranged for the Enoch
catalog a series of new piano numbers. Al-
though only recently introduced some of them
are already finding favor. They include "The
Musical Box," "Petite Valse," "Ballet Music
From Rosamunde," "Prelude" and "Quand II

Composer of "Long, Long Trail" Now Writes
"Trail o' My Heart," Published by Edward B.
Marks Music Co.
Zo Elliott, the well-known composer and
writer of "Long, Long Trail," has written
another "trail" song, and in this instance it is
named "Trail o' My Heart." The number, pub-
lished by the Edward B. Marks Music Co., is
being programmed frequently in vaudeville. It
was recently introduced by Chief Caupolican,
the famous Indian baritone, who for a number
of years was a member of the Metropolitan
Opera Co. "Trail o' My Heart" is the feature
number on Chief Caupolican's program during
his present tour. He claims to hold the record
of being the original singer of "Long, Long
Trail," having first introduced it in 1915.
