ceived suggestions from America's most promi-
nent motion picture orchestral directors, many
librarians being consulted. In offering it to the
orchestra leader Mr. Forster said: "The chief
difficulty was not had in classifying (although
that was no small task), but rather in arranging
these classifications in an easily accessible way,
and last but not least, in a practical manner and
still keep within bounds as to size, etc. Next,
to construct it substantially."
The "Forster Classified Orchestral Index" is
one of the most constructive contributions made
to the music industry in a score of years. The

Forster, no doubt, originally had the orchestra
leader in mind. Once immersed in this gigantic
task of preparing this work the unlimited pos-
sibilities for good became quite paramount. A
move planned to relieve the orchestra leader of
his many burdens and to make a greater use
of a wealth of appropriate material finally

Makes Success as
Retailer and Composer
Mabel Metzger Wright of Los Angeles, Known
as "March Queen," a Success in Both of These
Capacities
A composer who is also active as a retailer is
not so rare, but to be successful in both activi-
ties is a little unusual. That such a combination
is good, accompanied by the proper qualifica-
tions in both instances, can hardly be doubted,
and the proof that it is possible is shown
through the activities of Mabel Metzger Wright
who, together with her husband, comprise the
Wright Music Co., the well-known retail estab-
lishment of Los Angeles, Cal. Mrs. Wright has
won for herself a reputation as a composer of
march numbers and only recently she was re-
ferred to as the "March Queen". Her latest
composition, "Valiant Volunteers," an excellent
assembly march, has recently been taken over
,by Hinds, Hayden & Eldredge, New York City,
and will be ready for distribution in the trade
very shortly.
Another of Mrs. Wright's marches, "Pacific
Patrol," has been programmed by Sousa's band
and was also featured by Western police and
mail carriers' bands.
