Sheet Music During the Fall Months
PHILADELPHIA , PA. , September 17. -The singin g
public is in tune with th e publishe rs a nd dis­
tribu tors of pop ular mu sic, or perha ps th e latte r
ha ve attuned themselves to the pop u lar demand,
but, at a ll events, the out look fo r the Fal l an d
clo sing period of this yea r's bu siness unq ues­
tionably is bri ghter than it has been for seve ral
yea rs. Ho wever, an eve n more satisfadory con­
dition of affairs lies in th e fa ct that bu ying ha s
been more a dvanced and in larger volume up to
this mid -month than for a n y sea son sinc e the
great war period. The v e r y conc r e t e fact on
which the tr ad e bases its pred ict io n of a rec­
ord-b rea king season li es in the circumstance of
the large number of reorders already in and ac­
tu a ll y before the o rdin ari ly busy seaso n h as
gone into its fu ll strid e.

week and the re s t of the year ha ve, in dea ler
opinion , a t wofo ld basis-the lesse r of impor­
ta nce being· the general in crea se in the buying
power of th e pub li c w ith a resumption of in­
dustrial activities after a considerable lull in
man y; but, to a lar ger exte nt, the much clo ser
co-op erat ion , daily incr easing in vol ume be­
tween t he purveyors to popu lar am usement suc h
as the legitim ate s how house s and the film
hou ses and th e pub lis hers of bo th voca l a nd of
in st rumental music. In t his cit y part icu larly,
and w h e rever the connections of the Keith
vaudev ill e and the Stan ley Co. of "\meri ca are
mad e, the presen tation of vaudevill e with films
in film houses and of films w ith vaudev ill e in
vaudevi lle house s has done much to open the
way for brin gi ng home to the peop le popular
so ng an d in s tr ul'n e nta l h its. Th e tic-up between
aut hors and pub lishers on the one ha nd a nd of
producer s on the other is c loser than ever be­
fore . In a ll of the popul a r cafes' and in the
dan ce halls the attract ion of th e latest musical
