Are you still wasting your time and go-
ing to the expense of scraping off old
varnish and shellac to eliminate the
checks and cracks in order to secure a
smooth surface for refinishing?
Use Behlen's Varnish Crack Eradica-

It saves time, trouble and incidentally

tail. This is simplified tremendously by a sub-
division of the organization into three distinct
departments, which operate independently, viz.:
hardware tools and supplies, automotive equip-
ment and piano materials and supplies.
Louis Schmidt and John Schodler, both with
many years' experience, guide the destinies of
piano supply department, the former having
full charge of the buying of materials and the
latter directing the sales and advertising of the
finished product. Both of these men are also
directors of the company. Working hand in

land trade and his brother, Isadore Miller, is
the Canadian representative, with headquarters
in Toronto. The two Chicago representatives
are Joseph A. Vogt and F. R. Michaels, who
cover the Middle Western trade as well.
All of these men, as well as forty-two other
members of the Hammacher, Schlemmer & Co.,
have been with the organization for ten years
at least. Constant association has developed a
genuine spirit of co-operation which permeates
the entire establishment. There is no class dis-
tinction. The executives and William F.
Schlemmer, present head of the company, are
always reachable. Their desks are all alongside
of one another among .the many other desks
in the wide open floor space. William F.
Schlemmer, son of the founder, William Schlem-
mei, started at the bottom of the business ladder
when fifteen years old and in 1914 was made
president, having passed through every depart-
ment of the concern. Two years later he was
appointed treasurer.
Four large buildings, centrally located, are
utilized by the firm for its stock, supplies and
executive space. The main building is on Fourth
avenue at Thirteenth street, New York, with
an annex on the latter street. Also there are
the two warehouses on Twelfth street.
