PITTSBURGH DEALERS GIVE LUNCH TO C. J. ROBERTS
Merchants Honor First President of Association on Visit to City—Schroeder Opens New Store at
Newcastle, Pa.—Dr. A. B. Wright to Speak Before Association's May Meeting
PITTSBURGH, PA., 'April 30.—One of the most
pleasant social events in Pittsburgh music trade
circles for some time was the informal luncheon
tendered last Tuesday to C. J. Roberts, secre-
tary of Chas. M. Stieff, Inc., piano manufac-
turer, of Baltimore, Md., by members of the
Piano Merchants' Association of Pittsburgh.
When President Arthur O. Lechner learned that
Mr. Roberts would be in the city he arranged
for the luncheon and members of the Associa-
tion were asked to attend and meet Mr. Roberts,
who was its first president. The luncheon was
held at Kramer's. Those present were Ben L.
Sykes, local manager of the Stieff Co.; W. C.
Dierks and H. H. Fleer, of the C. C. Mellor
Go.; J. C. Volkwein, of Volkwein Bros.; D. L.
Aaron, of Kaufmann's piano department; W. H.
McConnell, of Boggs & Buhl; Paul S. Mechling,
of Dawson Bros. Piano Co.; President Lechner,
of the Lechner & Schoenberger Co., and C. C.
Latus, executive secretary. Mr. Roberts spent
two days in Pittsburgh in conference with Mr.
Sykes and then returned to Baltimore.
The May meeting of the Piano Merchants' As-
sociation of Pittsburgh will be held at the Lin-
coln Club on Tuesday evening, May 8, at 6:30
o'clock. There will be an innovation at the
meeting through the appearance of a prominent
economist, Dr. A. B. Wright, Dean of the School
of Economics, of the University of Pittsburgh,
who will address the members on "How Long
Will Prosperity Last?" Dean Wright is an au-
thoritative speaker and has been heard by a
number of Pittsburgh business associations dur-
ing the past few months.
James Moore Heidrick, aged sixty years, long
connected with the C. C. Mellor Co. as a piano
salesman, died at his home in this city on April
27. Mr. Heidrick was widely known in musical
circles in western Pennsylvania and was highly
esteemed in the circles in which he moved. His
widow survives.

PEASE SALESMEN ON ROAD
Three salesmen for the Pease Piano Co., New
York, have completed extended Spring trips in
different sections of the country during the past
fortnight. Frank E. Case, covering New Eng-
land, and Walter E. Hall, in the Middle West,
report progress on the part of the retailers and
find no marked accumulations of stock in those
sections. W. H. Alexander, the Western rep-
resentative, who ordinarily makes his headquar-
ters in Salt Lake City, has spent a few weeks
visiting the cities along the Pacific Coast and
his letters show him to be highly pleased with
his trip.

The formal opening of the new store of the
Schroeder Piano Co., at New Castle, Pa., took
place on April 28. The new store is located at
42 North Mill street. In connection with the
opening the firm held a piano show, at which
models of the Kurtzmann, Hazelton, Kohler &
Campbell, Brinkerhoff, Brambach, McPhail,
Schaff, Waldorf pianos and the Autopiano were
on display.
Jacob Schoenberger, president of the Lechner
& Schoenberger Co., was away several days the
past week, owing to a slight cold.
The W. F. Frederick Piano Co. furnished an
Ampico in the Knabe to the Joseph Home Co.
on the occasion of the latter's formal opening
of its $2,000,000 annex last week. The Ampico
was installed in a modern interior home setting
and the music rendered attracted many visitors.
In one of the show windows in a wedding scene
a Wurlitzer grand piano was featured.
After May 1 the Drake-Kapphan Piano Co.,
which handles Kimball pianos and phonographs,
will be located in its new quarters in the Magec
Building.
The office of C. C. Latus, executive secretary
of the Piano Merchants' Association, has been
moved from 623 Pittsburgh Life Building to
Room 48, Methodist Building, 524 Penn avenue.
Piano merchants report a better volume of
business for the month just closing. The de-
mand for high-grade instruments appears to be
growing stronger daily. Player-pianos and
grand pianos are the instruments which are
most sought after.
Horace Hays, of the E. G. Hays Co., Lester
piano dealer, reports a very satisfactory trade
during the month in the out-of-town territory
covered by the firm's sales forces.
Theodore Hoffmann, of the J. M. Hoffmann
Co., stated that business in the piano line was
showing a marked improvement the past few
weeks and that sales are quite satisfactory.
