M. J. Kortlander Seeks to Prevent Further Sales
of "Crazy Blues"
IT MUST BE
Max J. Kortlander recently applied to the
Supreme Court of White Plains, N. Y., for an
injunction to restrain Perry Bradford, the pub-
lisher and writer, from producing and selling
copies of the song "Crazy Blues," claiming that
he purchased the rights for the song in 1918,
under the title "Wicked Blues." Thirteen manu-
facturers of talking machine records are also
defendants.
The defendants entered a demurrer. They
hold that as the song was not published after
the lapse of a limited time the author retained
his rights and could publish the number under a
different name.

Well-known Arranger Joins Staff of the Ameri-
can Music Pub Co.
Everett J". Evans, the well-known music ar-
ranger, formerly connected with the Harry Von
Tilzer Music Pub. Corp., recently joined the
staff of the new American Music Pub. Co., with
main office at 1658 Broadway and a branch of-
fice at 233 Alexander avenue, New York City.
The above firm is featuring successfully two
songs, "I Want to Be Loved Like a Baby" and
"The Sweetest Rose of All." In addition its
catalog consists of "Dear Girl of Mine," "Some-
day" (You'll Care for Me), "Letters" and "If He
Could Talk Like He Can Write" (Oh, Boy,
What a Lover He'd Be).
SELLS INTEREST IN MUSIC SHOP
Johnny Cooper, who operated the sheet music
department in the Hancock Music Co., of Pasa-
dena, Cal., has sold his interest to W. G. Han-
cock. Cooper also operates the Melody Shop
in Los Angeles, Cal., and conducts the orchestra
at the Vista del Arroya Hotel.

PORTLAND, ORE., October 1.—The Portland branch
of the Remick Song Shop has made several
changes in its force of employes since the arrival
of the new manager, Clyde Freeman, who came
to Portland from the Los Angeles branch. The

Shop, and Paul Ruhl, who was for seven years
with the Ling Piano Co., of Detroit, Mich., has

trip to Los Angeles, where he established a pro-
fessional department for Sherman, Clay & Co.
