"Rio Nights," the waltz success from the cata-
log of the Fisher Thompson Music Publishing
Co., Butte, Mont., is among the leaders in point
of sales of current waltz hits and, according to
the publishers, its success is becoming more
pronounced. It has been placed on several of
the leading talking machine records and this,
too, has given it additional publicity and as-
sisted in the exploitation of the number.
Many dealers have given "Rio Nights" win-
dow display and others have found it lends itself
readily to demonstration purposes, thus creat-
ing sales. In th<' monthly bulletin issued by
F. J. A. Forftev, music distributor of Chicago,
it has been given a featured position.
BERLIN NUMBER A HIT
"Say It With Music" Popular Before It Is Offi-
cially Released
The new song and instrumental success, "Say
It With Music," which will have its real official
introduction with the opening of the Irving Ber-
lin theatre, The Music Box, has created a very
decided impression in music trade circles owing
to the fact that in some sections of the country
the melody of the chorus has been played by
orchestras.
This has led to the publishers receiving a nurri-
Ler of telegrams ordering shipments of the sheet
music. The original telegram was sent by H P.
Little, of Sherman, Clay & Co., San Francisco
and each day since one or two others have been
received, and in addition letters regarding the
music have arrived in practically every mail.
N E W YORK.
At the open-air concerts held at Columbia
University, New York, by the Goldman Con-
cert Band, under the direction of Edward Frank
Goldman, there was recently an unusual occur-
rence. Following repeated encores Mr. Gold-
man selected the lively song, "Molly on a
Trolley," written by Jerome and Schwartz. Not-
ing Jean Schwartz in the forefront of the audi-
ence the conductor forthwith invited the com-
poser to the grandstand, gracefully handing his
baton to the*originator of such popular airs as
"Bedelia" and "Mr. Dooley." M. Witmark &
Sons publish "Motty on a Trolley."
