SONG HITS ON THE PACIFIC COAST
Some of the Songs That Are Attracting Atten-
tion—Barney Hagen a Victim of Flu
SAN FRANCISCO, CAL., March 11.—"I Found a
Rose in the Devil's Garden," new Fred Fisher
fox-trot, is attracting plenty of attention on the
Pacific Coast as a result of the activity of Wil-
lie Pierce, Fisher professional representative in
San Francisco, who has succeeded in having the
number featured by orchestras and listed pro-
fessionally.
"Dream of Me," by Art Hickman and Ben
Black, is rapidly becoming a San Francisco hit
of the first magnitude. It is published by Wa-
terson, Berlin & Snyder, who have two other
numbers which are also doing well.in Califor-
nia: "Angels" and "Make Believe."
Laid up with the "flu," Barney Hagen, Wit-
mark professional representative in San Fran-
cisco, is expected to be in the hospital for some
time. Chester Conkling, who is in charge of the
office in Hagen's absence, is working on a new
character song recently received, entitled
"Becky From. Babylon."
"April Showers Bring May Flowers," the new
Feist number, is taking well in California and
H. C. Johnson, professional representative of
the publishers, has a large force out popularizing
the number.

Rudy Wiedoeft, the Author of Mysterious Dance
Tune That Has No Name
An odd piece of music, written by Rudy Wie-
doeft, the celebrated phonograph soloist, has
made its appearance about New York among
the various orchestras and is causing a great
deal of gossip because it has no title.
"What is iff (this is not the title)" is the
nearest thing to a title of the catchy tune and it
further bears the line, "The dance hit of 1921-
2-3," but there is nothing further to explain
the mystery.

J. Fischer & Bro. Issue Attractive Instrumental
Entitled "Chinoiserie"
''Chinoiserie" is the title of a new instrumen-
tal number just off the press, published by J.
Fischer & Bro., New York. The publishers
style it "a dainty bit of Oriental melody" and
recommend the composition above all for use
of orchestra conductors and movie organists. It
was composed by Firmin Swinnen, organist of
the Rivoli, New York.
"Chinoiserie" is the outcome of an improvisa-
tion on an occasion when a particularly attrac-
tive Chinese picture was being shown during
an entire week at the Rivoli.
It immediately attracted the attention of the
management and conductor of the orchestra
and, luckily, in this instance, the theme did not
get away from Mr. Swinnen. He was induced
not only to jot it down on paper, but also to
