HOLD SUCCESSFUL OUTING
Employes of New York Talking Machine Co.
Guests of President Arthur D. Geissler at His
Country Estate—Gam.es and an Old-Fash-
ioned Barbecue Features of the Day
The annual outing and games of the em-
ployes of the New York Talking Machine Co.,
Victor wholesalers, held August 14, proved one
of the most interesting and successful events
held by any local talking machine organization
in recent years.
The employes were the guests of Arthur D.
Geissler, president of the New York Talking
Machine Co., at his magnificent estate, "Dream
Lake," near Ossining. This place, which was
recently purchased by Mr. Geissler as his per-
manent residence, has long been one of the
show places of Westchester county.
According to program, the employes, over
one hundred strong, left the Grand Central sta-
tion at 9:30 in the morning in two special cars.
Auto buses met the train at Ossining and took
them to Mr. Geissler's farm at Illington Road.
After a tour about the farm, including an in-
spection of the "57 varieties" of animals, the
athletic program commenced, including a 200-
yard relay race for men, 25-yard race for ladies,
potato race for girls, sack race for boys, tug-o'-
war for men, tennis match and hand-ball
match.
There were-star entries in each event, though
at an early stage the married men acquired a
substantial point lead over the unmarried con-
tingent.
The luncheon came next, which was served
out of doors at specially constructed tables.
It was very satisfying in every respect. The
crowd then proceeded to the end of "Dream
Lake," where the water sports, including div-
ing contests, swimming races and canoe tilting
matches, were held, all of which proved highly
exciting to the onlookers. Incidentally the mar-
ried men maintained their lead and therefore
carried off the honors as final victors for the
day.
The dinner consisted of an old-fashioned bar-

becue and was a real treat. During the meal the
Hawaiian Troupe furnished music and after the
meal entertainment was provided by such talent
as Manuel Cravallo, Monroe Silver, Victor Ar-
den and Wheeler Wadsworth, of the All Star
Trio, Margaret Young and Margaret Illington.
Dancing followed for some time after and
then H. C. Ernst closed the party by leading
locomotive cheers for the host and hostess and
other dignitaries present.

THE COLUMBIA OCTOBER DISPLAY
Timely and Artistic Display Prepared by
Dealer Service Department of Columbia Co.
The accompanying illustration will give some
idea of the attractiveness of the window dis-
play prepared by the Dealer Service department
of the Columbia Graphophone Co. in connection
with the October releases. This display has sev-
eral interesting points, including the following:
Timeliness of appeal, tying up to Halloween
and harvest thoughts; the centerpiece, which is
Harger & Blish, Inc., Bring Over 200 Dea!ers
From Iowa to Attend the Edison Caravan
Convention on Its Visit to Chicago
All attendance records of the recent Edison
Caravan Convention were broken when repre-
sentatives of Harger & Blish, Inc., Edison job-
bers in Des Moines and Sioux City, la., invaded
Chicago with more than two hundred Edison
dealers, all intent upon taking part in the great-
est of all Edison dealers' conventions.
The following is from a letter addressed to the
Edison Laboratories by George C. Silzer, vice-
president of Harger & Blish, Inc.
"Had a prize been offered to the jobber bring-
ing the greatest number of individuals to any one
of the three Caravan conventions, I feel confi-
dent that we would have carried off the banner,
as is evidenced by the photograph I am sending
you under separate cover of our own Harger &
Blish delegation, or rather such portion of it
as we were able to round up for the purpose of
ihe picture.
"Among the entertainment features which we
provided for our own dealers was a ticket to
the Winter Garden show and we purchased 238
tickets. This, of course, included wives and
some sweethearts." Next year Mr. Silzer ex-
pects to have a 100 per cent attendance and he
says that he shall ncft be satisfied unless he does.
In every business we must take a chance; we
must venture to some extent; but with the ven-
ture we must combine judgment, enterprise and
brains.

WM. MAXWELL BACK IN ORANGE
Vice-president of Edison Laboratories Home
From Convention Tour to Pacific Coast
After an absence of more than a month Will-
iam Maxwell, vice-president of the Edison Lab-
oratories, returned to his desk at Orange on
August 9, thereby bringing to a formal close the
most unique series of trade conventions ever
witnessed.
While his trip was occasioned principally by
his participation in the Edison Caravan Con-
vention, which took him all the way to the Pa-
cific Coast, he did not return directly but instead
took advantage of the opportunity to visit a
number of Edison jobbing points on the way,
notable among which were Dallas, Kansas City,
Chicago and Toronto.
