BONUS FOR BRECKWOLDT EMPLOYES
Wage Increase Announced by Dolgeville Manu-
facturers of Sounding Boards and Bridges—
Increase Is in Addition to Free Insurance
N. Y., May 3.—The very gratifying
announcement has been made to all employes
of Julius Breckwoldt & Co., manufacturers of
sounding boards, backs, bridges, boxes, bars and
other piano supplies, that hereafter they will
receive a 10 per cent weekly bonus, in addition
to their regular wages. This will take effect at
once. It is given in addition to the free life in-
surance which is being carried by the company
for all of its workers and. which was put in
effect a few months ago. The advance is very
gratifying, it is needless to say, and is greatly
appreciated by the beneficiaries. The Breck-
woldt company has always maintained a high
standard of wages, as well as supplying steady
work at all times to its employes, without shut-
ting down its plant for years. Relations be-
tween the company and its employes have al-
ways been of the most friendly nature.
Announcement of the increase was contained

BIO OREGON LUMBER PRODUCTION
Car Shortage Hampers Domestic Shipments by
Rail—Large Export Orders Filled
PORTLAND, ORE., May 1.—Export demand for
lumber produced in western Oregon and west-
ern Washington is growing steadily heavier, ac-
cording to the weekly barometer of the West
Coast Lumbermen's Association. New export
orders accepted by 127 mills contributing to the
report for the week ending April 17 aggregated
16,436,811 feet, which was approximately 25 per
cent of all the business for the week.
The car shortage is reflected in the low
volume of rail shipments, which totaled only 1,-
375 cars, or 41,250,000 feet. This group of mills
now has an aggregate of 10,229 cars, or 306,-
870,000 feet of unfilled rail orders on their books.

the week, which was only 1,283,705 feet, or 1.40
per cent, below normal production.
The brisk demand for export lumber has pre-
vailed for the last few weeks. The principal ex-
port orders continue to come from China,
Japan, the Antipodes and the United Kingdom.
