Ross Sobel, the well-known entertainer, re-
cently returned to New York City after spend-
ing seven years in foreign countries. Last week
he was a caller at the offices of the Pace &
Handy Music Co., Inc., where he renewed his
friendship with W. C. Handy, of that firm.
Among other countries he visited were India,
Egypt and South Africa. On his trip he fea-
tured the music of the above publishing house
and his entertainments were such a success
that he brought back many souvenirs and in-
teresting letters from royalty in the countries
visited, including a gold cigarette case pre-
sented to him by the Rajah of Calcutta. Among
the songs he featured on his trip were Handy's
"Memphis Blues,"- "St. Louis Blues" and
"Beale Street Blues." Among the interesting
stories he tells of his trip is one regarding the
dances of the Kaffirs. In his own words, "You
haven't seen a shimmy dance until you see that
native dance of the Kaffirs."
