thumped his stone hammer on a hollow log.
It gave forth a booming sound. It was pleasing to his
primitive ear. So he carried it to his cave, and beat up-
on it, and was happy.
Mrs. Skinclothes stretched a hide across the end of it to
dry. And they found the music was made better.
So together they beat upon it, and were made happier.
And members of their tribe came, and marveled, and
enjoyed.

music—the first lisping effort at musical expression......
