NEW MUSIC SIZES SATISFACTORY
Popular Publishers, for Most Part, Adopt 9 by
12-Inch Size and the Sheet Music Dealers Ap-
pear to Be Pleased With the New Standard
Leo Feist, Inc., are the publishers of "Who
Put the Ham In Abraham," the new song with
which Belle Baker, the well-known comedienne,
now touring in vaudeville, is making such a
decided hit. The song is from the pens of
Archie Gottler and Murray Kissen.
If there was ever any complaint among the
sheet music dealers in regard to the various
sizes in which music is now published it seems
to have passed away. Generally speaking, sheet
music to-day is published in four sizes, the old
size, the new 934-inch by 12>4-'»ch» as recom-
mended by the National Association of Sheet
Music Dealers, and adopted by practically every
publishing house in the United States for their
standard works. Among the popular publishers
9-inch by 12-inch has practically become the
standard with the exception of Leo Feist, Inc.,
who issue their numbers in a size slightly
smaller. This latter for their popular catalog
only, as their standard and production numbers
are published in the larger edition.
On all the new editions the standard houses
are changing their title pages and bringing them
down to meet the recommendations of the trade.
It is true that new entries into the field, gen-
erally publishers of one number only, have a
habit, because of lack of knowledge of the needs
or the trade, of publishing numbers in the largest
size possible. This does not affect the trade
to any extent, inasmuch as these numbers gen-
erally have a small sale, and if they do become
real popular they are inevitably purchased by
one of the larger houses which, of course, issues
it in a more favorable size.
The most of the dealers have altered their
bins to meet the needs of the new sizes, and a
recent visit to some of the music departments of
several of the syndicate stores shows that they
are also adjusting their containers-to hold the
new editions.
DEATH OF MUSIC PUBLISHER
BERLIN AND WINSLOW TO PUBLISH
George H. Shorney, president and founder of
the Hope Music Publishing Co., died recently
at his home in Oak Park, 111., after an illness
of two weeks. He is survived by his widow,
two sons, Lieut. Herbert Shorney, instructor in
aeronautics; Lieut. Gordon Shorney, of the
navy, and a daughter.

AN INTERESTING McKINLEY TRIO
The McKinley Music Co. is at present outlin-
ing a campaign in behalf of several new pop-
ular songs. They are "When I Met You,"
"When You Hold Me in Your Arms" and "Oh,
Lady, Stop Rolling Those £yes." The first
number is a clever fox-trot and the song "When
You Hold Me in Your Arms" is a waltz ballad.
McKinley's New Song Success
GREATEST "JAZZ" SONG EVER PUBLISHED
All speculation regarding the future activities
of Irving Berlin, which has been rife since that
prominent composer severed his connection with
Waterson, Berlin & Snyder, was set at rest last
week with the announcement that Mr. Berlin
and Max Winslow, also formerly connected with
Waterson, Berlin & Snyder as general manager,
had formed a partnership and entered the music
publishing field on their own account. It is
stated that the new firm will embark in business
about June 1 in a location in New York still
to be selected.

"TUMBLE IN" PROVES A HIT
Friml's Music Contributes Largely to Success
of New Musical Comedy
"Tumble In," a musical comedy based on the
comedy '"Seven Days," by Mary Roberts Rine-
hart and Avery Hopwood, with book and lyrics
by Otto Harbach and music by Rudolph
Friml, opened at the Selwyn Theatre early last
week.
According to the reports of a number of critics
for the New York papers, the show was received
with unusual enthusiasm, and as it is well staged
with a more than capable cast it should run far
into the summer. A number of the songs come
in for mention, particularly "Won't You Help
Me Out?" and "The Trousseau Ball." Other
numbers which will probably be heard frequently
in the near future are "Limbo Land," "The
Wedding Blues," "I've Told My Love," "You'll
Do It All Over Again," "The Thoughts That 1
Wrote on the Leaves of My Heart" and "A
Little Chicken Fit For Old Broadway." C.
