NEW PACE & HANDY OFFICE
Memphis Publishers Open Headquarters in New
York City
The Pace & Handy Music Co., Inc., who are
well known in the publishing field, having for
years given the profession and the trade "blue"
songs issued from their Memphis office, have
opened a branch office in New York in the
Gaiety Theatre Building. They are featuring a
new song by Eddie Green entitled "A Good Man
Nowadays Is Hard to Find."
COHEN NUMBER IN DEMAND
"That's What God Made Mothers For" Increas-
ing Rapidly in Sales
Meyer Cohen, of the Meyer Cohen Music Pub-
lishing Co., recently stated that his firm's song,
"That's What God' Made Mothers For," has in-
creased its sales over 100 per cent, during the
past two months, and he now looks for it to be
one of the biggest war ballads of the next few
months. The professional offices of the company
have been quite busy lately catering to the wants
of the performers who wish to rehearse the
above and other songs in the firm's catalog.
McKinley's New Song Success
THE SONG THAT TOUCHES EVERY HEART
THAT both the song writers and the pub-
lishers seem to be turning out more and more
songs that do not treat of the war or patriotism.
THAT probably the peak in the turnout of the
war songs has been reached, and in the future
only numbers of that class that have rare abil-
ity will be published.
THAT the song writers themselves are not de-
pendent on the war for inspiration as long as
they have the moon, the girl at the garden gate
in a gingham gown and such other sources of
romance.
THAT as a matter of fact most of the late war
songs that have been successes have been writ-
ten by boys in the service.
THAT the foregoing statement shows that even
the discipline of an army cannot subdue the
desires of one who is bent on writing songs.
THAT the publishers who have awaited breath-
lessly the quarterly checks from their me-
chanical royalties are adding to their worries
through the rumors abroad that materials used
in the manufacture of records are very scarce.
THAT Willie Suffess, of the shipping depart-
ment of the Meyer Cohen Music Publishing
Co., has been called in the draft.
