Hammacher, Schlemmer & Co., Fourth avenue
and Thirteenth street. New York, have issued a

On the Hy-leat, under the caption of "Im-
portant notice," the company states: "This cat-
alog is being issued at a time when all material
is excessively high, and for this reason we have
omitted prices in the book, but have issued a
separate price list which we expect to revise
from time to time when sufficient changes have
taken place. Special prices will be quoted upon
application."

One of the secrets of the success that has at-
tended the David H. Schmidt Co., of F'oughkeep-
sie, X. Y., in the manufacture of piano ham-
mers for many years has been the accurate
David H. Schmidt
knowledge of the trade requirements possessed
by David H. Schmidt, the head of the house.
Though he has long specialized as a manufac-
turer of piano hammers of quality, Mr. Schmidt
in his earlier days had a thorough training in
the piano factory and became expert in that
line. The result is that as a hammer maker he
knows from actual experience just what best
suits the requirements of the piano manufactur-
er and is, therefore, able to meet those require-
ments.
The business of the David H. Schmidt Co.
keeps up in excellent shape despite the numer-
ous handicaps that are now faced by business
men in every line. Of course, there are ship-
ping troubles, but ways have been found to get
the hammers to customers with a minimum of
delay; likewise the matter of supplies presents
some problems, but these problems have been
solved in a large measure without in any manner

whatever detracting from the quality of the ma-
terial entering into the Schmidt hammers, or
the quality of the finished product.
KAPP HAMMERS IN DEMAND
Robert L. Kapp Co. Has Best January and Feb-
ruary in Many Years—"Super Strong" Ham-
mers Growing in Popularity All the Time
If the demand for piano hammer* may be
taken as any criterion the piano business is now
in a prosperous condition and piano manufac-
turers must be busy.
During the last few weeks the Robert L. Kapp
Co., 767 East 133d street, New York, has had
one of its busiest seasons. Robert L. Kapp,
head of the company, stated to a representative
of The Review this week: "We had a better
January and February than we have had for a
number of years, and have kept busy, inasmuch
as we have had plenty of supplies so that we
have been able to fill our orders with regularity.
The "Super Strong"' hammers, the sides of which
we have strengthened by a special process, have
made a distinctive hit, and we are furnishing
several representative manufacturers with them
at the present time. We are in a position to
handle a good volume of business, owing to our
supply of material, and we have been able to
help out manufacturers who have found it nec-
essary to have an immediate supply of hammers."
