NEW STANDARD SPANISH BOOKLET
AN IMPROVED MUSIC ROLL
PAYS HIGH TRIBUTE TO AUTOPIANO
"Our Player-Piano Book" Published for Latin
and South American Countries—Standard
Player Actions Are Growing in Popularity
WASHINGTON. D. C, March 25.—The Baldwin
Co., Cincinnati, O., are the owners through as-
signment by Robt. A. Gaily, same place, of
Patent No. 1,258,667 for a perforated music-sheet.
The present improved style of a perforated
music sheet is especially useful with note strik-
ing devices or other pneumatics adapted to a
varied speed of action' according to the amount
of air supplied to their primaries, as in this ap-
plicant's prior Patent No. 786,204, March 28,
1905, and No. 1,101,919, June 30, 1914, and No.
193,681, filed September 28, 1917.
Marie Morrisey Finds This Instrument Valu-
able as Accompanist—Congratulates Auto-
piano Co. on Great Achievement
The Standard Pneumatic Action Co., New
York, has just published a new edition of "Our
Player-Piano Book" in Spanish. As announced
in The Review some time ago, this booklet
made a distinctive impression upon the trade
and the purchasing public when published in
English. It explains in detail how to operate
the player and also gives a selection of music
rolls with which a library may be started. It
is written in the form of a running story re-
garding a family who found real delight and
gained better health through the purchasing
of a player-piano.
This new edition will be used extensively in
Latin and Southern America, where the Stand-
ard Pneumatic player action has become well
known, and where its admirers are constantly
increasing in number.
The success of the Autopiano, manufactured
by the Autopiano Co., for use in accompany-
ing- either in vocal or instrumental work, was
MADE 12,000,000 ROLL FLANGES
The question is sometimes asked how many
music rolls are manufactured each year. A re-
port of the last year output of Geo. J. Crosman,
Newark, N. J., manufacturer of music roll
flanges, showed that his company made twelve
million flanges during the year 1917, or enough
music roll ends for six million music rolls.
"The Player that Pays
As Well As It Plays!"
(And that Means Very Well Indeed)
The virtually unanimous opinion of the army of piano merchants who
sell it is to the effect that the wonderful
M. Schulz Company
Player-Piano
excels as much in its profit making as in its playing abilities. In both,
they say, it surpasses its competitors every time.
Do you ask for reasons? They are

Miss Marie Morrisey
manifested recently in a tribute paid the instru-
ment by Miss Marie Morrisey, a well known
contralto, who has appeared in concerts in
many of the largest cities in the country.
Regarding the instrument, which she herself
has been playing for some time, she says:
"Since Christmas I have been playing the
Autopiano—and I want you to know what
keen pleasure it has given me. Not alone
have I used it for piano numbers, but 1 have
frequently used it for vocal accompaniments
of my own, with great delight.
"You are to be congratulated upon this instru-
ment of yours—which responds so readily, that
it seems almost human."
PNEUMATIC SELECTIVE APPARATUS
Important Patent Granted to Lewis B. Doman
and Assigned to the Amphion Co.
WASHINGTON, D. C, March 25.—The Amphion
Piano Player Co., Syracuse, N. Y., are the own-
ers through assignment by Lewis B. Doman,
East Syracuse, N. Y., of Patent No. 1,258,39*) for
a pneumatic selective device.
This invention relates to a pneumatic selec-
tive apparatus for selecting and operating any
one or more of a relatively large number of
pneumatics or translating devices, and is par-
ticularly useful in co-operation with the note
sheet and tracker bar of a self-playing musical
instrument in causing solo parts of a musical
composition to be played with greater emphasis.
It is evident, however, that the selective ap-
paratus may be used in playing different instru-
ments and in many other relations where it is
desired to operate a considerable number of
pneumatic or other devices one by one or in
combinations of two or more.
The broad object is to provide simple, prac-
tical and efficient means for selecting and oper-
ating any one or more of a relatively large num-
ber of pneumatics or translating devices through
the medium of a comparatively small number of
selective units.
One of the specific objects is to provide a se-
lective apparatus which may be used in connec-
tion with a pneumatic self-playing musical in-
strument, such as a piano or other keyboard
player, and operated through the medium of a
relatively small number of extra tracker ducts
and corresponding rows of perforations in the
note sheet to cause solo parts to be played with
greater emphasis than the remaining parts.
