of this type from the company's dealers through-
out the country, and the banjo-guitar in par-
ticular is gaining considerably in popularity.
The "Vernon" style 10 banjo-guitar, which is
shown herewith, has a thirteen-inch head, nickel
plated rim, and thirty nickel plated brackets. It
is particularly noteworthy for its remarkable
tone volume, and judging from the advance or-
ders already received, it will be a welcome ad-
dition to the Bruno products.

VIOLIN MAKERJiOES TO WAR
LOUISVILLE, KY., August 6.—J. A. Finlay, a vio-
lin maker of this, city, has left for Montreal,
where he will join the Canadian fighting forces
for service across the sea. Mr. Finlay was
born in Glasgow, Scotland, and recently applied
for enlistment in the Officers' Reserve Corps,
and also in the regular army, but the fact that
he was not naturalized barred him from being
accepted. He, therefore, has joined a Canadian
regiment.

The Morgan Music Co., of Shelbyville, Ky.,
has just received a shipment of German made

this country before the beginning of the war,
but have been held up in bond until now. The

BANGOR, ME., August 6.—The Violin Makers' As-
sociation of Maine held its third annual violin
contest last week in the City Hall Auditorium
here. The association was organized in May,
1915, for the purpose of advancing the interests
of modern violin makers, and encouraging the
art and science of violin making. Active mem-
bership is confined to men who have made one
or more violins, while associate membership is
given to those who are not engaged in violin
making, but who are either playing or learning
to play the violin. The winner of the annual
contest this year was Geo. Baudette, of Bidde-
ford, Me. At the present time the association
has twenty-four active members and fifteen as-
sociate members.
