Ditson Community Chorus Selections of Timely
Interest—Other Excellent Volumes
MIAMI, FLA., April 2.—S. Ernest Philpitt, pro-
prietor of Philpitt's Music House, this city,
who has enjoyed a countrywide reputation as a
sheet music man through his long connection
with the trade, is putting some excellent ideas
Among the particularly interesting recent pub-
lications of the Oliver Ditson Co. is the Ditson
Community Chorus Collection, which, in view
of the present development of the idea of com-
munity singing, should prove a most timely pub-
lication. The contents is made up chiefly of
old songs that may be referred to as standard,
such as "Alice, Where Art Thou?" "Annie
Laurie," "Auld Lang Syne," "Good Night,
Ladies," "The Last Rose of Summer," "A Life
on the Ocean Wave," "The Minstrel Boy"
and "Sailing." Then there are patriotic songs
such as "America," "The Star Spangled Banner,"
"Battle Hymn of the Republic," old Southern
songs including "Old Black Joe" and the "Old
Folks at Home," and a selection of the more
popular hymns. It is a booklet of value in the
home and schoolroom, as well as to the com-
munity chorus.
Included among the recent issues are to be
found also a volume of twenty-five easy and
progressive studies for the piano under the
heading of: "Primary Schools," by J. B. Du-
vernoy and "The Practical Violin School," by
Carl Henning, a comprehensive volume of 150
pages, ranging from the elementals of violin
playing to the more advanced steps, the text
being in both English and German.
Attractive Display at Philpitt's Music House
into practice in his store here, as well as in
his departments in Jacksonville and Washing-
ton, D. C. One of the features of the local store
is a spacious show window with a door on each
side. Mr. Philpitt takes full advantage of the
opportunity for making an attractive display.
There is shown herewith a view of the Philpitt
window during the recent "One Fleeting Hour"
week, conducted by the Sam Fox Co.
ADD 50 NEW COMPOSITIONS
In response to the many requests the Century
Music Publishing Co. has received from dealers
urging them to issue more individual titles, an-
nouncement was recently made to the trade that
fifty compositions have been added to the cata-
log. The additional numbers are piano pieces
a'nd are issued in most attractive form and are
being well received by the -trade. Many dealers
are making special window displays of the new
issues and the results are said to demonstrate
the wisdom of the recent additions.

NEW MACFARLANE PIECE
PORTLAND, ME., April 2.—"The Mystery of the

collaborated with Mr. MacFarlane in the oper-

melodious and attractive.
Milton Ager's "Erin Is Calling" appears in
the April list of the Edison Blue Amberol rec-

success, and the publishers report the demands
