FRANKFORT, IN D., September 18.—The Stevens
will cause the proper adjustment of the spools
regardless of the direction in which the music Manufacturing Co. has procured patents on a
device for cleaning player-pianos, known as the
sheet is displaced.
The invention further consists in providing Stevens' player cleaner, and is now manufac-
mechanism of the type above referred to turing the same at its shop at 251 West Clin-
adapted to be operated by the continual contact ton street. The cleaner removes automatically
of the edge of the music sheet with a single con- all dust, lint, and other foreign substances

bar. By employing the present guiding and tracker-bar and bleedholes, and which clog up
tracking means the winding spools can be the mechanism and cause the notes not to re-
shifted and adjusted laterally in either direc- spond.
SIMPLEX VALVE CONSTRUCTION
WASHINGTON, I), C, September 18.—An im-
provement in pneumatic actions for pianos has
just been granted to Win, G. Betz, of Buffalo,
N. Y., bearing No. 1,197,596. The principal
features of the invention look more particu-
larly to a simplified valve construction and the
method of supporting the action levers con-
trolled thereby. Referring more particularly
to the valve mechanism, the inventor claims
that with his construction a very effective con-
trol of the hammer action is secured and one
in which a smaller air duct or vent in the
tracker-bar may be used and still secure a very
good operation. The action levers are so hung
that said levers and their supporting arms may
be independently removed when this step be-
comes necessary.
