THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
The Phonograph should be different from all other musical instruments, it should have no characteristic
tone, only the tone of the instrument or voice recorded on the record disc, yet Phonograph tone must be
amplified, built up after it has received its initiatory impulse. It is therefore subject to the same principles of
tone-building which must be observed in building a piano or violin tone.
The Starr Piano Company for half a century has known, understood and applied true laws of tone-
building in its Starr Pianos. The whole world knows the result. The Company has now, with its modern
factory facilities, its thorough knowledge, its broad experience and its vast resources, placed

before the music-loving public.
Since the success of any phonograph lies in its adaptability to bring forth music in all its natural inherent
qualities, portraying each individuality of shading throughout, in such, then, does the success of the Starr as
a musical instrument depend.
When we claim that the tone the Starr produces is rich, strong, and pure in every variance of expression,
bringing out every tonal naturalness with utmost integrity—you will wonder why.
We have accordingly prepared a booklet to explain this differ-
ence in tone and why there is a difference.
WILL YOU READ IT?
If you are interested in a phonograph even indirectly, you will
profit by reading this manual. It is a complete description of phono-
graph reproduction, giving the purpose and the discussion of each part
controlling or affecting the tone. It is free from technical phrases or
obscure meanings, and is the most comprehensive article written
of its kind.
