(Special to The Review.)
CHICAGO, I I I . , August 6.—What is believed to be G. Gulbransen more than any selling ability on the
one of the largest, if not the largest, orders ever part of our people. Two days before the order
placed for piano actions was that placed last week was given to me I had no idea that the Gulbransen-
with the Bransfield-Billings Action & Supply Co. Dickinson Co. was seriously considering our sug-

Bransfield Metal Angle Rail Action Frame (Front
dent and general manager of the Bransfield-Bill-
ings Co., does not disclose the actual number of
actions ordered, but it is declared that there were
enough to equip all the player-pianos made by the
Gulbransen-Dickinson Co. with the Bransfield
metal angle rail action. The order calls for more
metal angle rail actions than wood rail, but does
not include any wood flange actions.

ago, and Mr. Gulbransen gave them a thorough
examination and test, and those samples landed the
big order. Mr. Gulbransen is one of the few men
in the trade whose approval we prize most highly,
for he has proved himself to be one of our fore-
most inventors and experts, and a man with whom
qaulity has more weight than price."
There is no agreement, Mr. Kurtz said, that
Bransfield actions be used in the player-pianos of
the Gulbransen-Dickinson line to the exclusion of
all other actions, and on the other hand the Brans-
field-Billings Action & Supply Co. has not bound
itself to supply Bransfield metal angle rail actions
only to the Gulbransen-Dickinson Co. Both corpo-
rations are free to buy and sell as they please, so
far as oiher manufacturers are concerned, but the
size of the order indicates that the Gulbransen-
Dickinson Co. will not be in the market for many
actions of other make for a long time to come, and
that the me al rail and flange departments of the
Bran ^Ic'd-Billings factory will be worked to their
present capacity to fill the order. It is Mr. Kurtz's
intention to increase the equipment in these de-
partments as soon as new machines can be built
and delivered.
FILLING CHECKS IN VENEERS.
Simple Method That Has Proven Very Effective
in Actual Practice.
The repairing of checks in veneers, after they
have been glued up, is a tedious as well as pains-
taking job, if it is done so that it will not show up
the imperfection. A simple method which has been
tried with considerable success in all kinds of
veneers is to take any quantity of fine sawdust
from the same kind of wood your defective piece
is made of; put it in an earthen pan, pour boiling
water over it and stir
well. Then let stand
for a week or ten
d a y s , occasionally
stirring it. Then let
it boil for some time
and it will be of the
consistency of pulp
or pasle. l'ut into a

moisture, says Ve-
neers. Keep this on
hand, a n d w h e n
some veneered stock
checks, mix a suffi-
cient quantity of thin
glue in a desired
amount of this mix-
ture to make a paste;
rub this well into the
cracks or holes in
your work.
When
this gets dry and hard, clean or sand off the
stock. If this paste is filled in sufficiently tight
in crack, the imperfection wiil not be noticed.
We're here to
do your bid-
ding and are
at your serv-
ice.
