tragic in character. At the first performance the
new work received considerable praise from the
critics when considered as a whole.
A BRILLIANTTTITLE PAGE
Found on the New E. T. Paull March "Battle
of the Nations"—Modern Battle Scene De-
picted in Color—Some Excellent Effects.
Not the least impressive feature of E. T. Paull's
latest march, "Battle of the Nations," which is now
off the press and ready for delivery, is the unusu-
ally elahorate and artistic title page design, repro-
duced in several brilliant colors, and which depicts
a strictly modern battle scene. In the foreground
is shown a gun crew endeavoring to get their piece
clear of a charge, while in the middle distance is
shown infantry engaged in a furious hand-to-hand
lipht. In the background there is shown a fort
engaged in repelling an attack. Zeppelins and
aeroplanes are seen flying over the field with shells
bursting between. It's a scene full of action and is
bordered by the flags of the nations now engaged
in the present struggle.
As to the music of the march itself, it is ar-
ranged with a view to bringing to mind the various
armies engaged, the shrill music of the Scotch
bagpipes being offset by the "Wacht am Rhine" of
the Germans, the "Marseillaise"' of the French, and
so on. It is an elaborate piece of composition.
