ties to rout out the get-rich-quick music publish-
ing houses and the publication of reports regard-
ing the proceedings, the supply of "suckers" does
not appear to diminish.
THAT for one ambitious amateur song writer
who inquires regarding the standing of a question-
able concern, there are apparently a hundred of
the same breed who simply send their money and
then hope in vain.
THAT Jack Glogau, of the Feist staff, is in favor
of having burlesque companies rehearse in the
winter time, when it's cooler.
THAT Thomas J. Gray says that what is needed
is a book on "How to Collect Royalties," instead
of "How to Write Popular Songs," which same is
"saying something."
THAT Ted Barron is back in New York again,
after about ten months spent in traveling through
the West in the interests of his catalog, which
bears the imprint of the Metropolis Music Co.
THAT Shapiro, Bernstein & Co. are now settled
in their new quarters at 224 West Forty-seventh
street.
THAT if half the predictions made for the suc-
cess of the fall crop of songs make good, it is

The league is also arranging to give a series of
concerts in Boston, New York, Pittsburgh and
Youngstown, O., next season. These concerts,
which will enlist the services of artists on the
list, will be extended to other cities. It is planned
to add the appearance of artists of reputation in
connection with them.
The profits from these concerts will be set aside
in a fund to be used for the education of talented
young musicians residing in the towns or cities
where the series takes place.

The Worth of the Music League of America
and Its Splendid Aim to Aid Ambitious Mu-
sical Youngsters.
Definite progress has been made in the work of
the Music League of America, an organization
founded three months ago for the purpose of help-
ing deserving young musicians to a proper public
hearing. Among the officers and directors of the
league are Mrs. H. O. Havemeyer, Mrs. Willard
1). Straight, Mrs. Otto II. Kahn, Mrs. Linzee
Blagden, Mrs. W. K. Vanderbilt, Dave Hennen
Morris and Alvin W. Krech.
As a result of the hearing of artists held in
this city during the last two months, sixteen ar-
tists have been selected. Engagements will be
given them, and they will be helped to make a
career in every possible way by the league. The
list selected is the result of hearing 144 singers,
eighteen violinists and thirty-four pianists, 196
performers in all.
The league will now endeavor to obtain engage-
