THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
Letters, which was held at Aeolian Hall the clos-
ing days of last week and attended by a notable
assemblage, of personalities, Arthur Whiting, the
' composer, read a paper on "'The Amrrican Com-
poser." He said the tendency of American music
should represent the American temperament by
the characteristic of rhythm, an element of music
which composers were inclined to neglect in the re-
finements of harmonies.
Mr. Whiting jarred the sedate Academicians
somewhat by launching into a championship of
"Dixie" as the real American national anthem.
"Our beloved Dixie," he said, "has survived six-
ty years, and yet thrills to-day as it did when it led
the tired marchers on the Potomac. We have an-
other anthem: 'God Save The 'Tis of Thee.'
I speak thus direspectfully because it is not our na-
tional anthem.
"We have to-day three real anthems representing
their peoples—the Hungarian anthem, the Marseil-
laise and Dixie. The first two have been suppressed
in many times of stress because they represent too
well the spirit of the people in distinction to the
spirit of rulers."

The H. P. Nelson products have
risen to their present high position
in the trade because of strict ad-
herence to the policy on which the business
was planned, i.e.: The greatest value for the
least money.
Dealers who are forced to meet
heavy competition in the commer-
cial grades will find the Gerhard
line ideal. Of the Gerhard it can be truthfully
said that it is the "most" piano in the country
for the money.
