THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
UPWARD TENDENCY IN PRICES.
Improved Domestic Market for Copper and
Larger Foreign Shipments in Evidence the
Past Week—Situation Analyzed.
There has been an upward tendency in copper
prices during the past week, resulting in the disap-
pearance temporarily, at least, of the metal being
offered below 11% cents a pound. There is a bet-
ter domestic demand and the export movement of
copper is also heavier from New York this week
owing to the acquisition of more freight room in
European ships.
"The consumption of copper has fallen off well
below the normal level, and for the time being
there is therefore a large supply of available metal
on hand. But with a heavy decrease in mine pro-
duction under way refinery output will also begin
to show important curtailment before the end of
the year. Plans now in operation will go far in
restoring a healthy equilibrium between produc-
tion and consumption.
"Notwithstanding the disturbed condition of
trade domestic requirements are absorbing consid-
erable copper, and export demand is not nearly as
bad as it might be. A good tonnage of copper
sented it to the chief of the society. It read:

of copper, which until lately were of such magni-
tude as to be regarded as a leading feature of the
situation.
"With the reduction in the selling price of elec-
trolytic copper to 11% to 11% cents per pound the
metal is being sold at the narrowest margin of

BAGPIPE ANALYSIS.
There is a Scotch society in a New England
town which every year gives a musical festival,
wherein the bagpipe plays the chief role.
Among the guests attending the last entertain-
ment of this sort was a young composer from Chi-
cago, who, while, of course, familiar with the bag-
pipe, had never heard anything like this. So im-
pressed was he that he drew up an analysis of
bagpipe music as it sounded to him and pre-
