Mrs. Charles H. Ditson Secures Cup That Will
Not Roll for Use in "Tristan und Isolde."
Mrs. Charles H. Ditson, wife of the head of
Chas. If. Ditson & Co., the prominent music house,
has presented to the Metropolitan Opera Company
a handsome wrought brass chalice for use in the
first act of "Tristan und Isolde." During the prog-
ress of the first act of the opera Mrs. Ditson
noticed that when Isolde dropped the cup after the
intense dramatic scene between herself and Tristan,
the vessel often rolled down to the footlights and
served to distract the attention of the audience. The
cup presented by Mrs. Ditson is haxagonel in shape
and therefore will not roll easily.
