WESTERN IRON CO. INCORPORATED.
It may interest piano plate founders to know
that a process for converting steel and wrought
iron scrap into pig iron has recently been per-
fected by Horace W. Lash, of the Garrett-Crom-
v.'ell Engineering Co., Cleveland, O. It is de-
signed for use in the extreme western part of the
country where steel making scrap is a drug on the
market and low in price and where pig iron for
foundry use (there being very little demand for
either pig iron or scrap for steel making) com-
mands a considerably higher price than in the
East. For producing pig iron under this process
the Western Iron Co., in which several prominent
Cleveland men are interested, was recently inco-r
porated in Cleveland with capital of $125,000 and
will establish a plant in San Francisco. This com-
pany has effected its organization with the elec-
tion of the following officers: H. W. Lash,
president; S. T. Wellman, first vice-president;
F. F. Prentiss, second vice-president, and D. R.
Taylor, secretary and treasurer. These officers
with Dudley Baldwin, S. P. Fenn and VV. S.
Briggs comprise the board of directors. The
company's headquarters are in the office of the
Secretary and Treasurer, Williamson Building,
Cleveland. Mr. Lash is at present in San Fran-
cisco in the interest of the company, and reports
excellent prospects.
