THE
and lias at least four musical numbers which
should prove decidedly successful.
They are:
"Who Can Tell What Love Is?" "Cupid, Don't Be
Stupid," "We'll Build a Bungalow" and "A Bright,
Loving, Cute, Bad Little Girl." The last-named
number is worked up in a very unique fashion,
and, of course, the suitors ultimately attain their
hearts' desire. The music is published by Leo.

THAT the Frelinger Music Co., of Lafayette,
Ind., have recently added a sheet music depart-
ment to their piano store.
THAT Jerome II. Remick expects to go to his
summer home in Bass Rock, Gloucester, Mass.,
to-day, to stay a week.
THAT a tlock of sheet music buyers have been
in town during the last fortnight.
THAT as they were on their vacations and not
buying anything, they did not get so many invi-
tations to dinner as might have been forthcoming'
—whereby some publishers may lose.
THAT publishing thorns are liable to prick the
sides of the venturesome, for they can't be changed
to roses.
THAT Harry Von Tilzer came near proving
last season that being "two years ahead of the
time" was a good move.
THAT with the assistance of Ray Goetz he has
now gone four years more ahead, which is too
far.
THAT in the meantime the slow-pacing public
will be unable to catch up with, and thus appre-
ciate, the fast, lyrics which Goelz has written for
"1 Love It."
THAT Jack .\'oi worth's fame has been estab-
lished by a cigar being named after him—three for
ten cents.
THAT Remick & Co. report large sales on their

displayed in the "song shops" and elsewhere.
THAT Kd. Abies, the whistler, is again con-
nected with Jerome II. Remick & Co.
THAT .Maurice Levi is not letting Churchill's
patrons forget that "The Human Night Key of
New York" is one of the best joint productions
of Harry B. Smith and himself.

THAT Dorothy Jardon, song writer, sketch
writer, and singer, has joined the cast of "Madame
Sherry" and will be seen in the New York pro-

The production of "The Sweetest Girl in Paris"
at La Salle Theater. Chicago, has been postponed
to August "29, the piece opening next Monday in

MURILLO SIGNS WITH WITMARKS.
Composer of Republican Hymn of Colombia
to Write Exclusively for That Firm.
Senor Don Emilio Murillo, who, in addition to
being an attache of the Colombian (South Ameri-
can) Legation, at Washington, 1). C, is a composer
of Colombian music and of the Colombian Republi-
can hymn, has signed an agreement with M. Wit-
mark & Sons, by the terms of which he is pledged
to write exclusively for that concern for an indefi-
nite period.
Senor Murillo's best and most striking composi-
tions are those of classical character, possessing an
originality and beauty all their own. This gifted
composer recently charmed and delighted large
audiences in Washington by giving recitals at the
residence of Senor McDowall, secretary of the

"liusincss is growing—come in and watch it,"
said Harry Von Tilzer the other day. We could,
in fact, see it expanding, for work in the remodel-
ling of the Harry Von Tilzer building in West 43d
street is under way. Increasing demand for space
for the professional department has led to a recon-
struction of the second, third and fourth floors of
the building. Two new rooms for this department
have been arranged for by moving two stock
rooms to the fourth floor, and a new room for the
production department is also being fitted up.
Harry Von Tilzer will have his desk in an office
adjoining this room, so as to give his personal at-
tention to rehearsals of his production numbers.
A Stein way "baby" grand piano has recently been
purchased for this department. In all there will
be eight piano rooms, with as many instruments.
Will Von Tilzer left for Chicago last Saturday
on a business trip, lie is expected back at his desk
next Monday. While away he has been setting
the wheels in motion for featuring "Under the
Vum-Yum Tree" in various cities of the country.
George Friedman, sales manager of the Harry Von

a success almost equal to that attained by "Cuban-

Colombian Legation, and in the salon of the new
building of the International Bureau of the Amer-
ican Republics. On the latter occasion Vice-Presi-
dent and Mrs. Sherman, the Mexican Ambassador,
the Assistant Secretary of State and Mrs. Wilson,
the Hon. Henry White, chairman of the United
States delegation, and the other ministers and dele-
gates present were profoundly impressed with the
remarkable skill displayed by Senor Murillo, and
showed their approval by frequent and hearty ap-
plause.
For some time past Senor Murillo has been en-
gaged in making a remarkable series of records in
the Columbia Phonograph Co.'s laboratory, New
York. Practically every important work composed
by him, including piano, flute and vocal solos, is
being put on Columbia records. These solos are
executed by Murillo personally, the band numbers
being played by the Randa Espanola, under his
supervision. Of course, the Republican hymn of
Colombia, which he composed, occupies a promi-
nent place among the compositions recorded by the
Columbia Phonograph Co., to whom Senor Murillo
has given the exclusive right to record his works.
The house of Witmark is greatly to be congratu-
lated upon having secured so distinguished an addi-
tion to its already large staff of writers as Senor
Murillo, several of whose more recent compositions
will shortly make their appearance bearing the im-
print of that concern.
Leo. Feist, the music publisher, of this city, re-
ceived a cable dispatch last Saturday from Elsa
Wyinan Maxwell stating that she was leaving
Paris and would sail from Havre that day. She
was expected to arrive in \ T ew York toward the
end of this week. Miss Maxwell has achieved
considerable fame while abroad as a composer
with most peculiar gifts. Her powers of improvi-
sation are remarkable, and some of her new com-
positions thus effected have been taken down by a
musical amanuensis and put into form for pub-
lication.
Miss Maxwell went abroad with Dorothea To'ye,
who has startled Paris with her "double voice."
The former has been asked to collaborate in writ-
ing the music for an opera to be given at one of
the leading theaters in Paris. She was really
"discovered" by Leo. heist a few years ago, and
since then her advance toward musical prestige has
been rapid. The songs and instrumental numbers
which she wrote prior to going abroad last winter
have been published by Mr. Feist, and he expects
that in due course he wiil bring out a number of
other compositions from her pen.
