THE GREAT PLANT OF THE CABLE-NELSON CO.
On a Tour of the Plant The Review Notes an Equipment That Will Enable Them to Meet All
Demands of the Big Trade That They Are Destined to Enjoy the Coming Fall and Winter
—Two New Scales Under Way—A Strong Governing Organization.
(Special to The Review.)
Chicago, III, August 10, 1908.
Lay aside superficialities, and a well-regulated
factory in full operation is a magnificent work
of art. As the pigments in a master painting
simulate with marked fidelity the marvelous col-
orings with which nature decorates her hand-
work, and as the limner recalls to the mind of
This is only one of the means by which legiti-
mate economies have been affected. A point for
the dealer to remember is that the Cable-Nelson
Co. do not absorb this saving, but put it back
into their product, as their constant ambition
is to give the trade the best possible value for
the money.
This factory, with its liberal dimensions and
store the lumber after it has been in the kiln
and which aids in the drying season.
While the company do nothing to lessen the
self-respect of their men they exercise a watch-
ful care over their welfare. Space to the south
of the factory, 120 feet square, is being arranged
for an outdoor gymnasium. It will witness
track and field sports of all kinds, and there will
be several tennis courts. Shower bath houses
will also be erected. The Cable-Nelson baseball
team is a fine organization of stalwart athletes
and has a large string of victories to its credit.
The factory superintendent, E. S. Rauworth, is
a young-old piano man of marked attainments,
and has a capable assistant in W. J. Moore.
As the trade well knows, the general mana-
gerial and sales organization of the company is
of the same high standard as that of the factory.
President Fayette S. Cable, Vice-President M. A.
Myers, and Secretary George W. Schultz form a
trinity of brains calculated to command respect
in any line of trade. They have a competent
force of experienced piano travelers. The gen-
eral offices and warerooms on the fourth floor of
the Republic building are among the largest and
finest in Chicago, and include a prosperous re-
tail department under the management of W. W.
Stratton.
The Cable-Nelson Piano Co. have recently had
two new scales drawn for them by a skilled and
scientific scale drawer at considerable expense,
and are now using the same in their Cable-
Nelson pianos. One of the scales is used in their
style "A" (4 ft. 6V 2 in. in height), and the other
scale in styles "E," "F," "S," and "Art" (4 ft.
9% in. in height), with full iron plate and bushed
tuning pins in all.
