The postal authorities have taken decisive ac-
tion against so-called guessing contests which
have been inaugurated by several piano dealers
in various parts of the country on the grounds
that they are lotteries. As related in last week's
Review the advertising scheme of H. Kleber &
Bro., the well-known dealers of Pittsburg, who
offered to give a piano free to the holder of a
certain number, was stopped by the post-office
authorities on this ground. The basis of the
action of the Postmaster-General is to be found
in the following order sent out to the postal of-
ficials:
"The attention of postmasters and railway
postal clerks is directed to section 499 of the
Postal Laws and Regulations of 1902 (section 1,
act of September 19, 1890), by the provisions of
which newspapers or other publications of any
kind, circulars and pamphlets, containing adver-
tisements of lotteries, gift concerts or similar
enterprises for the distribution of prizes by lot
or chance, or lists of the prrzes awarded in pur-
suance of such schemes, and all other matter re-
lating to them, are declared to be unmailable.
The terms 'lottery, so-called gift concert, or sim-
ilar enterprise offering prizes dependent upon
lot or chance,' as used in that section, include
'guessing' or 'estimating' contests for prizes, as
well as drawings and raffles of every kind,
whether general or local, whether for private
gain or in aid of charitable, educational or re-
ligious objects, and whether the consideration

KOHLER & CAMPBELL'S NEW CATALOGUE.
The new 1907 Kohler & Campbell catalogue
was put in the hands of their dealers the past
week. It is an exceedingly artistic piece of
work, and shows up their new styles exceedingly
well. A radical departure from the usual style
of piano architecture is their style M, a very
unique Mission model, which is designed to meet
the requirements of all homes in which that style
of furniture is predominant. The other new
styles illustrated are style A, a small upright
grand; style K, four feet six inches high; style
R, a Louis XV model; style H, four feet eight
inches high; style G, four feet nine and one-half
inches high, and style X, four feet ten inches
high.

ert Building, New Haven, Conn., last week, a
number of old instruments belonging to the
Steinert collection were damaged by water. The
warerooms of the Steinerton Co., recently
opened, were practically uninjured, although the
escape was a narrow one.

It possesses a scale of rare even-

and richness, with a quality that
is highly orchestral. Our latest
