Leominster, Mass., July 12, 1904.
Work has begun on the foundation for the new
factory of the J. H. Lockey Piano Case Co., that
is to be known as the lower factory. The factory
is a necessity, on account of the increase in the
business, and will give employment to from 30 to
50 more hands. It is to be three stories high, a
frame structure, 60 feet long by 40 feet wide.
The factory will be a modern one in every re-
spect and modern improvements will be installed
to lessen the risk of fire. It is to be equipped
with sprinklers, to act automatically. The two
lower stories of the factory will be used for the
making of piano case backs, and the upper one

BORING MACHINE
TO MAKE PIANO HARDWARE.
The Oregon Plating & Machine Works, of
Oregon, 111., was incorporated with the Secretary
of the State of Illinois this week with a capital
of $18,000 for the purpose of manufacturing
piano hardware. The incorporators are: Willard
E. Cleveland, J. O. Pettey and James E. Powell.
THE BOOTH STOCK OF VENEERS.
Several big shipments of unusually fine figured
mahogany, admirably suited for the high-grade
piano market, have just been received a t the
yards of William Booth & Bro., successors to J.
Copcutt & Co., 432 to 438 Washington street, and
33 Desbrosses street. The Booth stock of veneers
is one of the largest and choicest in the United
States. Much of the wood is secured from ex-
clusive territory, the original privileges having
in some instances been secured over forty years
ago, when the firm was first established.

We are advised by W. S. Potwin, president of
the National Varnish Manufacturers' Association,
which last week held its annual convention in
Buffalo, that no action whatever was taken re-
garding prices, etc., on piano and organ var-
