An absolutely new set screw has just been put
on the market by Hammacher, Schlemmer & Co.,
New York, and the merits of which will doubt-
less be recognized and appreciated in piano fac-
tories. The illustration shows the hexagonal
steel wrench or "key" supplied with these screws.
The power on wrench is applied equally to the en-
tire length of the screw, so there is little or no
torsional strain and the whole force is applied
largely at the point of the screw where it is re-
quired. With the old style set screw the head is
liable to twist off.
This hollow set screw, the subject of a late pat-
After an absence of seven years Edouard Rou-
vet, sole agent in the United States and Canada
for J. Herrburger's Schwander action, will sail
on June 2 for Paris, France. His transporta-
tion has been secured on "La Touraine," of the
French line, and he expects to be away about a
month. Mr. Rouvet has done exceptionally well
with his agency, increasing the sales by comfort-
able percentages every year. He now believes his
firm should branch out and take the position
they are entitled to in the estimation of the trade,
and for this purpose Mr. Herrburger will be asked
to consider the erection of a Schwander building
in the Bronx district of New York City, where
more room and improved facilities will be gained,
that are really essential to a proper development
of the business. Mr. Rouvet has his suggestions
reduced to an intelligent and convincing basis
for early action on the part of his chief.
Rudolph C. Koch, maker of the Reinwarth
strings, 386-388 Second avenue, whose book of in-
dorsements entitled "Piano Manufacturers' Own
Comment" has attracted much attention in the
piano trade, is rightly proud of the record made
by his predecessor and himself in string-mak-
ing. His present success is largely due, he be-
lieves, to the superior merit of the product he
manufactures. Otto Wissner, the well-known
Brooklyn manufacturer and dealer, when reply-
ing to a request for his opinion of the Reinwarth
strings, said:
Dear Sir.—We will gladly lend our endorse-
ment to the "Reinwarth Strings" manufactured
by you. Have used same many years, and find
them of very superior quality and a high grade
of goods, and you can count on a continuance of
our orders so long as you keep up this quality.

The patented "Silent" pedal action invented,
recently introduced and now being manufac-
tured by Charles Ramsey, 884-886 East 134th
street, has already been indorsed and accepted
by a number of leading manufacturers. They
acknowledge the strength of Mr. Ramsey's claim
that his pedal action is "simple, easily adjusted,
noiseless, durable and economical."

ent, is designed to replace both the headless and
square-head set screw and one length of each
size is all that is required for any depth of hole.
They are made on the principle that the efficiency
of a screw is attained when the length of the
thread is equal to the .diameter of the screw;
made of steel, drawn with a hexagonal hole
which insures elasticity and prevents loosening
during changes of temperature. By putting two
screws in a hole they are locked and the thread-
strain is equalized. One length is efficient for
any depth of hole which obviates the carrying of
a great variety of lengths as is necessary with
the old styles. Protectors and hubs do not have
to be cast on revolving shafts and elsewhere to
avoid protruding heads which too frequently
catch workmen's clothing, causing accidents, as
the hollow screws have no projections.
