Handsome Displays By the Krell and Smith &
Nixon Companies—Clever Publicity Schemes—
Baldwin Factories Illustrated.
[Special to The Review.]
Cincinnati, O., Sept. 7, 1903.
The much-talked about Fall Festival was
formally opened to-day amid much enthu-
siasm. The piano houses are not as well
represented as in former years, those in evi-
dence being the Krell Piano Co., the Smith
& 3>Iixon Co. and the W. G. Woodmansee Co.
The Krell booth is handsomely decorated
in white and gold and green. A specially
designed, artistically carved grand, costing
$10,000, occupies the central position, around
which are placed a Krell upright in white
and gold, a Krell upright in white mahogany,
a Cecilian piano player in white and gold,
and a Stella music box of special design.
One of the features of this booth is the
giving away of a $500 Krell piano to the
person guessing the nearest the amount of
pieces in a large glass jar which contains a
sample of material from every part of the
Krell piano. There are no conditions or
restrictions attached to those participating,
only that no person can vote more than once,
and that the name must be registered.
Another magnificent booth is that of the
Smith & Nixon Piano Mfg. Co., which is
decorated in ivory and gold, the Roman col-
umns setting off the booth, which is 20 x 30
in size, most artistically. The instruments
shown include some handsome Smith &
Nixon and Ebersole pianos. The Chase &
Baker Piano Player is also in evidence as
well as the Regina music boxes. An idea of
the number of callers expected at this booth
may be inferred from the fact that they have
prepared five thousand pieces of advertising
matter which will be given away free of
charge.
The Woodmansee Piano Co. also make a
very attractive showing.
The absence of the D. H. Baldwin Co., the
Cable Co., the Aeolian Co. and the Rudolph
Wurlitzer Co. is due to the fact that press
of business prevents their participation. The
two first named particularly find difficulty in
filling orders at their respective plants. If
the weather continues fine there will be an
enormous crowd in Cincinnati during the
continuance of the festival and the various
piano stores cannot fail to reap the benefit.
Did you notice that in the article on the
Fall Festival which appeared last week in
Leslie's Weekly there was given an illustra-
tion, or to be more exact, a bird's-eye view
of the immense factories controlled by the
Baldwin Co. in this city? In this connection
J. B. Ellison, president of the Cincinnati
Chamber of Commerce had a very interest-
ing article entitled 'The Growth, Develop-
ment and Industries of Cincinnati."
Herman A. Braumuller, treasurer of the
Braumuller Piano Co., left New York this
week for a trip through southern New-
York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana. He
will not return before the early part of
October.
Byron Mauzy, of San Francisco, has se-
cured the agency for the R. S. Howard piano
of New York and a shipment of these instru-
ments is now under way.

Future scanning projects are planned by the International Arcade Museum Library (IAML).
