ly different position. This gives an added
advantage in that the stencil-sheet or a thin-
ner sheet cut at the same time may be played
in a normal piano player and any error of
notes or rendition be corrected before the
stencil is used.
DEVELOPER. John G. Dubler, St. Louis,
Mo. Patent No. 721,029.
This invention relates to a developer, and
may be properly termed a "technique-devel-
oper," for use by students in piano exer-
cises, as well as pupils in learning type-writ-
ing and other analogous operations; and the
purpose of the same is to produce a sys-
tematic development of strength, indepen-
dence of action and suppleness of all the mus-
cles and joints in the forearm and hand also.
by its particular shape and weight, to physi-
cally improve the symmetry of the forearm
by acting on the muscles and producing a
graceful fullness to the form of the forearm.

Smith & Barnes Piano Co.,
HAVE WON PRESTIGE AND POSITION.
Among the most notable tendencies in the
piano trade during the past year or so has
been the increased demand for pianos of first-
class standing—instruments that are not
merely good to look upon, but in which are
embodied all those essentials in the way of
scale, action and other equipment which go
to make an artistic product. And speaking
of actions, it is pertinent to say that it is in
such instruments that the actions made by
Strauch Bros., of this city, have been used.
Their use have unquestionably helped the
reputation which the pianos command as
well as aided materially in selling them. The
Strauch policy to sell manufacturers only of
first-class instruments has given the dealer
and salesman a talking point which they have
used advantageously with the result that not
only has the Strauch action won fame as
"the ideal standard," but the same applies to
the pianos in which they are used.
That the Strauch policy is a wise and win-
ning one is obvious from the increasing de-
mand for Strauch actions which is in evi-
dence at the factory. The prospects for 1903
could not be brighter. More Strauch actions,
as well as Strauch keys, will be sold this
year than ever before in the history of this
house. The Strauch name is intertwined
with prestige and reputation of the highest
and the trade know it.
