A Great Meeting Place for the Small Goods Men of
tht World—A Description.
One of the greatest events of commercial
Germany is the annual fair at Leipsic. It
commences the first Monday in March and
lasts for eight days, this year closing Tues-
day. The Prater, one of the most commo-
dious streets of the ancient and historic city,
is set apart for the fair, roomy warehouses
lining both sides, and which are generally
unoccupied excepting during the festive peri-
od, for such it is, in addition to the strictly
business aspects of the occasion.
All the principal musical merchandise man-
ufacturers of Germany—the violin, harmon-
ica, accordion, music box, string and band
instrument makers of all kinds, are there
with a full line of their products on exhibi-
tion. In fact, every branch of the music spe-
cialty trade, excepting the piano, which is re-
garded too bulky and requiring too much
expensive space for a fitting display, is rep-
resented. Besides exery other line for which
the Germans are famous is shown in bewild-
ering variety.
To the Leipsic fair come visitors from all
over the world who may be either interested
in the latest productions, as well as crowds
of competing manufacturers who. are like-
wise curious to see the novelties and the new-
est things in which they may be interested.
The musical merchandise exhibits are partic-
ularly attractive, and the center of the great-
est activity. If an agency of any firm is de-
sired, the Leipsic fair is the place to view
the goods and complete the deal; and with
few exceptions the negotiations for the pres-
ent American branches and representatives
of the leading German and Austrian manu-
facturers, were taken up, and the arrange-
ments carried to a finish right here.
The diversions during the fair are many
and various. The reign of King Carnival
is complete, and the fun is fast and furious,
according to a leading small goods importer
who has been a participant at different times.
The young women who minister to the wants
of the thirsty souls "where the Wurzburger
flows" are in fancy costume, and when the
eight days of the fair are over "you are way
back on sleep," observed the dealer reminis-
cently, in a drowsy way, as his mind uncon-
sciously wandered back to his last seance.
This year reports say that the fair is par-
ticularly brilliant and well attended.

HAMMACHER, SCHLEMMER & CO., New York City, s i n c e 1848.
The North Chester Baptist Church of
Chester, Pa., last week dedicated a new Estey
organ with a high-class musicale, which was
listened to by an audience which crowded the
church to the doors. The organ was "dis-
played" by Prof. Kern, of Philadelphia, and
its tone qualities as revealed by him delighted
the assemblage.
Psycho, the automaton, who has created
such a sensation in various large cities by
his performance on the piano and piano
player, has been holding forth during the
past week at the Bradbury piano warerooms,
1,225 Pennsylvania avenue, Washington,
B.C.

Future scanning projects are planned by the International Arcade Museum Library (IAML).
