THE CORONATION PRIZE MARCH.
The worshipful Company of Musicians in
London recently offered a prize of fifty gui-
neas (about two hundred and fifty dollars)
for the best coronation march. The judges
were Sir Walter Parratt, Sir Frederick
I'ridge and Sir Hubert Parry, and of the
many compositions sent in, they had no diffi-
cult}' in awarding the prize to Reney God-
frey, teacher of music at King's School, Can-
terbury. It will be published under the title
of the "Coronation Prize March" bv Metzler
& Co., Great Marlborough street, London.
It will be sold for the benefit of King Ed-
ward's Hospital Fund. It possesses much
originality, its opening movements are grand
arid dignified, it is melodious and graceful
and has a finale full of spirit.
Mr. Harry Crandall, the comedian in "Mc-
Fadden's Row of Flats" is singing "Oh,
What a Lovely Dream" to repeated encores
nightly. Miss Beatrice Gamble, in the same
company, sings "Jennie Lee," and John Mc-
Veigh, the baritone, does well with "It's Al-
right, Maytne."
Helene Mora, the well-known singer, is
singing HorwiU and Bowers' beautiful bal-
lad "When 1 Think of You" with great suc-
cess, lerome and Schwartz, the well-known
writers of many Broadway hits, are writing
several numbers for Geo. W. Lederer's new
production "The Wild Rose." They are go-
ing to be "hummers."
